That Hoser, who has been faking snake catching at petrol bowsers and other places round Melbourne?

That’s the guy. Hopefully they finally take his licence off him for this. He’s lost it before, but he got some gullible twit at the AAT to reinstate it.

This guy hung out in front of my kitchen window today. Purebred pigeon. I was able to approach him and feed him, thought he was injured but he flew away after a few hours. Amazing looking bird, pity about my crap photo through the screen.

Yep.

Also enjoyed leaving his gate open so his Akita would wander around and bite unsuspecting people, just so the council would take him to court where he could waste a few days’ worth of their time.

Also known for letting a snake bite his daughter for a stunt.

Crazy video. Interesting thread:

Mum’s been on the nest again, same tree, same nest, and this is the first sighting of this year’s crop. Really really hope that if they fall from the nest, it’s on our dogless side of the fence, and not the neighbour’s. And really really hope this year’s model has effective sight, unlike last year. If they fall our side this year, we ain’t touching them, and if they fall next door hopefully the neighbours pop them over the fence before the dog notices. Stressful days coming up again.
■■■■ they’re cute though!

Awesome. I’ve got a few tawnys (we tell our girls they’re owls, sue me!) around my yard too.

Can hear it calling almost 24/7 at the moment. I just hope the cat I see roaming around at all hours buggers off.

Whale sculpture catches crashed Dutch metro train

A train driver in the Netherlands has had a lucky escape thanks to a fortuitously placed art installation.

A metro train in Spijkenisse, near the city of Rotterdam, crashed through a barrier at the end of the tracks shortly before midnight on Sunday.

But rather than plummeting 10m (32ft) into the water below, the train was left suspended dramatically in the air.

It ended up being delicately balanced on the large sculpture of a whale’s tail at the De Akkers metro station.

“We are trying to decide how we can bring the train down in a careful and controlled manner,” one official told the Dutch national broadcaster NOS on Monday.

The driver, who has not been named, was able to leave the empty train by himself. He was taken to hospital for a check-up and is not believed to have suffered any injuries.

The sculpture, titled Whale Tails, is the work of the architect and artist Maarten Struijs, and was erected in the water at the end of the tracks in 2002.

Mr Struijs told NOS that he was surprised the structure did not break.

“It has been there for almost 20 years and… you actually expect the plastic to pulverise a bit, but that is apparently not the case,” he said.

“I’ll make sure that I get a few photos,” he added. “I could never have imagined it that way.”

The birds have flown, although one only a few days ago when Mum essentially (tawny)frogmarched the little one off the nest and along a bough, a bit like being forced to walk the plank.

A week or so ago l posted about a deserted brumby foal that my niece found. I can’t find that post now, but here is an update. The foal stayed here in Hastings for two nights only. It required round the clock feeding, and my sister and another niece weren’t able to sustain that sort of commitment. Instead, they went online and found someone who had a mare that could become a surrogate mum. Last Wednesday they loaded the little one up into a float and took it to a property up near Bendigo. It is now being cared for and a year from now, a foster family will be found for her.

You’re lucky to have front row seats here @GRR. Very envious!
Last night I went to sleep listening to the hoots of a Powerful Owl.
