Paws, claws, hooves, feathers and fins

Just an update. We had a call from the vet yesterday to tell us that unfortunately the bird didn’t make it. They said it must have been hit by a car and that it suffered head trauma and they had to put it down. I was hoping for a Christmas miracle but unfortunately it didn’t happen.

@Tezzalenco sorry to hear your news but you played your best game. A much nicer way to leave this world than suffering by the side of the road.

Well, does it sing in the dead of night?

Not to my knowledge.

Then not a blackbird.

Growing up pretty quick. The mum and dad are taking turns in and out bringing food.

Have you got a recipe in mind?

Any you could share?

Noticed something flapping around in the wood heater last night, turns out a little bat had made its way down the flue. Tried to take a photo of it in there, but the reflection off the glass wasn’t great.

Anyway, grabbed it with an old jumper, took it out the front and it flew off in to the night. Was a cute as little critter, and to see it fly off was quite impressive.

Better put a mesh around the flue cowl I guess!

Patient “O”.
“Patient zero” is a misquote.

The dude who came to be known as patient zero was a long way into the chain of transmission once it hit the US.
It was “O”, and it only stood for “Out of California” as they were trying to track AIDS’ transmission.

The poor ■■■■ got blamed for just about the whole pandemic. His mistake was being dumb enough to volunteer information to try and help.

No way?! you learn something every day!

I know right? Read a thing about him the other day.
Gaetan Dugas is his name.

Yeah, Randy Schilts used Dugas as an example of early-AIDS-era contact tracing in And The Band Played On, and the meme kinda snowballed from there. Schilts never actually claimed Dugas was Patient Zero for AIDS in the US, but lots of people read it that way.

Mind you, Dugas had unprotected sex with piles of guys when he knew he had an incurable and fatal STD, so I’m not going to cry too hard for the bloke.

Turn of phrase has an uncomfortable feel to it.

Yours hurts a lot too.

Just amazingly majestic. The girl’s reaction is the icing on a perfect cake.
