You don’t remember? Short mammary…

We’ve “watch out for ducks” signs round here too but we also have three local fwits, like within half a dozen houses of here, who let their cats out regularly. One pair of ducks can be regularly found outside one of the nearby cat residences and they’re still breathing, which is a wonder and a source of constant stress. I assume the cats avoid them or they take off more quickly in the presence of felines than when I walk past.

She’s a funny one. And beautiful! I did a full house clean, vacuum, mop, everything. Didn’t run away scared or anything, just sat there and watched. Vacuumed the couch and she sat on there and didn’t move. If I had a backyard I would like a dog but apartment living cats cope best. Very clean, give them some areas where they can sleep and look outside and they’re happy!

How do you manage with the need to regularly clean out the kitty litter tray/box and the attendant odours?

I am currently working in my sister’s cattery. Early tomorrow morning we have to pack up cat for a flight to Cairns. This monster has been with us for 5 weeks and we can’t get near it. I clean it’s pen every day, while it growls and spits, then leave its food on the floor. We have tried 4 different forms of medication to calm it down. None of them have worked very well. In the morning we will try a fishing net and welder’s gloves to get in the carrier box.

I am holding off feeding it tonight until late. I will put the strongest sedative we have found in its wet food. Hopefully in the morning it will be a little sedated and we can get it in the crated without losing too much flesh and blood. Any tips for how to handle a near feral cat, would be appreciated.

I clean the litter tray twice a day. Seems to work well. I use soy litter, you can get it from Coles. Good for neutralising odour. Change the litter once a week. Easy!

What a weird cat: hasn’t pushed the glass of water off the edge yet.

She will drink it though. Rarely drinks the water I put in her bowl, but will drink mine! :man_facepalming:

All good. The monster cat is gone. l sedated him via his food around midnight. He was fairly docile this morning at 6, when the courier arrived to pick him up. He was in a box, open at both ends. We through a blanket over one end, and behind it, we had a fishing net. Then we slid a cushion behind the other open end. I pushed on the cushion and he slid into the blanket and then into the net. He tumbled into the net, blanket and all. Then we tipped him out the net, into the upright carry cage still in his blanket, and closed the door. He was a lot more subdued than we expected, probably due to the sedative. Next stop for him, a new home in Cairns, providing he doesn’t miss his 7.30 flight.

Yeah I hate giving sedatives to cats. As much as mine looks like butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth, she doesn’t go well at the vet so I have to mix sedatives into her food the night before and the morning of the appointment. It works, I’ve never had a problem picking her up and putting her in the carrier, it’s just when she’s at the vet.

One of my cats loved the Vet, but was a shocker on car travel, meltdown in a carrier, Vet refused to prescribe sedatives. However, would not stir if nestled on someone’s lap or on the floor of the car.
On the cat preferring to drink from a glass, some have trouble lapping ( or learning how to) need to draw the water up over the sides of the receptacle.
