Where is this?

@theDJR Jaunty angle alert! See above.

Two shots, 1/20th of a second apart. To me they aren’t quite right, but I don’t know what it is lacking exactly. I was trying for that classic shot.

Maybe it’s too clean compared to this one?

I think I like the last one the most.

Edit: maybe the second last

been thinking about these , for me i think the light is too flat or even which means that something within the frame has to draw your eye, the light isn’t doing it. And the stationary objects that are sharp either aren’t the point of interest or are obscured by the motion. It probably needed one person stationary to stand out amongst the motion blur., and the whole thing is too wide, there’s a lot going on without a specific subject. You’re also battling some pretty tricky exposure issues with the bight sky areas. But that’s just my opinion, trying to work out why none of these quite grab me. just fyi.

Edit: I just saved one of them and a quick play with the crop tool, I’d be making the guys foot that is grounded as he steps out , with the girls leg in motion behind him and the grittiness of the non slip treads the “subject”. You also then get a little symmetry with three legs all in similar angles in the background. And of course, for me , I’d pull the colour  ( in my defence , if you want that classic look shot, I think mono works better in these ones)

I can show you my quick version , but i’d never take the liberty without permission.

Yes that was well spotted .I just zoomed in on the verical one cropping the 2 people on the left out . reveals the buildings in top of frame.

You have my permission. I can link you raws if you like. I did think about B&W but sort of wanted that coloured NY subway feel. Like Springsteen getting off the train.

From memory this was the 70-300 lens probably close to 300. Fro would be upset with the cropping (and these are cropped).

I assume that’s what @saladin meant. I had to do a bit of selective exposure change as that yellow strip is quite bright in b&w. Also contrasted it to the extreme and added quite a bit of grain. Feels like you follow the foot in the foreground and go from there.

I don’t mind it like this at all, but the only thing i’d say is that it could be Melbourne it could be Tokyo

And to confirm the photo settings, it was 1/20, f10, iso 200. 253mm. 2:51pm

No raws needed for me. It’s more just an idea of what I’d try to do with what was captured. You’d certainly be able to juggle the exposure levels better and maybe draw the eye to certain things a little bit.

That still 3:2?

5:4 and I’ve cropped it a little too much , should have given the background lady her toes back

That’ll teach her to rush off the train!

I’m a bit of a train nerd, but I do love staring at the station as well. The post and the details that run through it all. The lights right up the top. The camera, the wiring that seems to be everywhere.

Ok, the 200mm explains one thing. Even at F/10 the focus plane is beyond the closer foot and before the further one. Of course, at 1/20 motion blur is a factor too.

I have a feeling I just used the post as the focal point as it was in the middle so to speak. I was at the far end of the platform so as not to be a nuisance to the passengers. I was also down on the ground to take the shots so had to be beyond the doors to not get in the way.

These are long trains too. This is the chuo express and it runs 11 carriages @ 20m a carriage.

I did learn though you have to take these shots from the front of the train looking back as opposed to from the back looking forward. You can see why here.

Pesky locals looking at the camera!
