Playing badly against bad teams (or not)

No, theyā€™re not.

Yep - we have such a poor record against ā€œbadā€ teams because we have been an average team ourselves over this period.

Our poor record against bad teams is only poor if we had been finishing Top 4 in those. It is about spot on for a team finishing anywhere from 6th-10th.

So whatā€™s everyone complaining about then? That also means we often play above ourselves against better teams.

Would be interesting to see how we compared to another middle of the road side and a top 4 side in wins against top 6 teams over the same period.

One of my previous posts mentions Hawthorn are 28 wins from 29 with an average winning margin of 61.

As for middle of the road teams over the same period.

Richmond (51% overall winning record):
31 games, 24 wins, 6 losses, 1 draw. 77% winning record against bottom 6 teams.
Average winning margin 42 points, 4 wins under 3 goals.

North Melbourne (55% overall winning record):
32 games, 24 wins, 8 losses. 75% winning record against bottom 6 teams.
Average winning margin 53 points, 3 wins under 3 goals.

So weā€™re basically the same as North and Richmond. North win more a bit more convincingly and have less close games, but donā€™t win any more than we do.

Well I had already gotten up from the couch and walking out of the loungeroom, until I heard the commentary say that heā€™d missed.

So yeahā€¦ pretty much.

except over the past couple of years richmond and north didnā€™t get told they wouldnā€™t be allowed to play finals or their kids would be effected by mystery mexico drugs and have their coach banned and get booed for being drug cheats and interrogated and pressured to cave into deals and favorable suspensions from the game.

The last season where that didnā€™t happen to us we lost one game against the bottom six and put some real scoreboard hurt on a few teams.

so yeah our form against bottom side is definitely a special issue worth ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  about all week every time weā€™re favourites.

So we're basically the same as North and Richmond.

You can actually pinpoint the moment when his heart break in two.

S if Essendon win roughly 75% of games against bottom 6 clubs, then having beaten St Kilda and Carlton already, it is statistically likely that there will be a loss against Brisbane, Melbourne or St Kilda in the return game.

Depressing.

If I understood the media (and this forum) correctly we actually lost the game except for Schneider voodoo.

All moments in a game are of equal importance to said game.

Same as we lost against the Hawks because of the umpireā€™s bad bounces.

Melbourne. Lock it in.

Statistics tells us we are an average team and have been for quite a while. However, the axiom that numbers never convinces anybody is also very true. Fans have high expectations because of our history. Remember the good old days? Letā€™s hope we can repeat history in the not too distant future.
