What’s wrong with the traditional sheilas and blokes?
No not at all. But bugger me if I am going to remember your name and pronoun about you.
Depends on the circumstance. A friend. Sure easy to remember.
Joe/Jane/(gender neutral version) public? I think theres more pressing things to worry about.
I find that most, well…all…that I’ve encountered, people this actually applies to are the furthest from militant about it as they could possibly be.
They’re used to it.
They’re too tired to go over it again.
They have enough on their plate without trying to educate the whole world, one at a time.
I used to be reactionary about this. Dead-naming, too.
I did the whole Jim Jeffries ‘it doesn’t make any sense!’ thing in my head.
But now I just feel like it doesn’t have to make sense to me. We do a lot of things that don’t make sense.
This isn’t about me in any way, so just try to be kind.
yeah how dare that ■■■■ refer to someone by their specific gender pronouns. yeah no manners at all
.
typical millennial
Yeah of course. There are though people out there you can’t be kind too.
I can see this sort of thing being a problem for someone in the service industry or teaching.
Someone taking offence at something like that invisages to me that theres a lack of kindness towards the individual making a pronoun mistake, even if its an effeminate guy or masculine girl.
Its not in the same league as someone holding racist, sexist, bigotted views on faith or age for example. Or just ■■■■■■■■■.
As a Xennial I’m staying out of this argument
Geez, we’re really doing gender pronouns? On a game day?
Transgendered people have as much right to be a jerk as anyone else.
I don’t think it’s accurate to suggest it’s the norm on this issue.
Far from it.
If I could make a terrible analogy (all analogies are terrible), if someone mispronounces your name, you may or may not correct them.
You’re going to get narky if someone deliberately mispronounces it.
You’re going to appreciate someone trying, whether they get it 100% right or not.
One day you might have to have contact with a person who is non binary. It’s happened to me and it took a little while to get used. Now I understand it and it’s easy. Just takes kindness. Change is upon us in many ways, deal with it or retreat and return to nothing. But I reckon you’ll prefer the third option.
I thought it was more funnily ironic that some questioned another about “basic manners” after calling someone a boomer with all the negative connotations associated to that term, all because he asked a question if others have dealt with it, yet somehow that registered as a “melt down”.
I don’t think if you use the word ■■■■ in your own little hypothetical that you can claim to be coming at this in a calm and balanced way.
It’s peculiar to get very angry about someone asking you to be kind, in a very small way.
Do you honestly consider BF to have accidentally failed to use basic manners?
This board is quickly turning into a HS comments page.
I don’t even understand why non binary means.
Yes, that’s the peculiar part…
It means not solely identifying with or conforming to a specific gender.
Yeah there’s like 49.9% of the population are male and 49.9% female then… a few other ones that aren’t either.
I don’t think it should be expected to know all that much about them - other than they do exist, and it’s nicer to be nice to them than to pretend they don’t exist.
Think of them like Gold Coast supporters.
Do you mean the full-blown narcissism that trans/non gender binary people go down that path to… waste your time?
Start the game day thread… Or @scotty21?
Blitz needs nuggets.
