Political Correctness

Getting upset over a joke you don’t like. Wow. What a waste of life.

Provided those involved are willing participants, I don’t understand why one would object to bad taste jokes.

Depends on the joke. If there is no malice behind it, and it’s not straight out offensive, it’s ok I think.

General rule though is it’s much easier to make jokes about a subset of people if that group had a sense of humour.

I dabbled in stand up in the early 2000’s, I learnt this the hard way. Never make jokes about Christians :joy:

Catholics on the other hand love it.

Why do those weasels do what they do? They think they’re righteous when in fact they’re just bullies and sooks. Anyone have a thought on this they could share? I saw a cartoon on
stonetoss.com which offers up an interesting notion:

Depending on what you find funny, Stonetoss’ work is outstanding. Often offensive. Takes the mickey out of both sides but clearly appeals to the non woke demographic. If you’re a sucker for being professionally offended by everything, avoid his work for your own sanity.

Suppose it was offensive but those involved are cool with it. Kosher?

Never make jokes about Christians? Bugger that. Makes jokes about whomever you want (again, provided you know those you’re sharing the joke with are cool with it.)

Is this the monologue thats stirring up the controversy?

Im not following whats so horrendous about it. Is it crass, yeah, does it make some valid points using comedy as a way to cut through tension, yeah, do all comedians do that, yeah.

Maybe im missing something but the point he is making seems pretty supportive of marginalised people generally?

The thing is. It’s just as easy to rile up the ‘non woke’

It’s also incredibly funny to do so. It’s literally my favourite thing to do at family gatherings.

“Does anyone want another sausage?”

“You can’t say that Mick”

And then watch him go on a 30 minute diatribe.

It’s the best :joy:

Oh absolutely. Saying ‘you cant say that’ to a bunch of over 50 white men is always good for a laugh at a boring family event.

It works both ways, and I think thats kinda exactly the point chappelle is trying to make.

True. Whiners on both sides. But the woke types are easier to bait and have stronger reactions. For the record, winding up right wingers is also fair game.

How do you know people are cool about it ? Some say they are, but really are not.

Mrs Fox had a Boss who threw great dinner parties, and he liked to be the comedian for the night. He told lots of Irish jokes; and one night I had enough and so I converted an Irish joke into a Maltese joke (our host was of Maltese extraction). Everyone laughed as normal, except the host, who told my Wife that I was no longer welcome at his home.

If you give it, you have to be able to take it.

Oh, anyone can make a joke about what ever they like.

But.

They can’t ■■■■ an moan if people get upset about it.

You can’t poke a bear and then complain when it takes your leg off.

Im pretty sure Dave went into it full well knowing there was going to be fall out.

It gets into a very grey area, doesn’t it? You must choose you’re audience carefully.

That Maltese bloke sounds like a tool. The first person an Aussie should learn to make fun of is themselves.

Depends on the joke. So many variables if you’re talking about jokes told in the workplace or at a dinner party.

The issue is centred around jokes that Chappelle told on stage. If you don’t like his comedy, don’t go to his shows or watch them. Complaining about them is silly.

EDIT: Should there be fallout, @benfti?

Yep, perfect example.

I’m ashamedly a Christian Ben.

It offends me that you don’t think I can take a joke.

5k posts in the anti PC thread suggests it’s actually far easier to rile up the anti-PC brigade.

True, I mean there isn’t a pro PC thread at all :joy:

a billion times easier

they just jump into the boat

Yep.
Hence why the papers so often run the complete beat-up “PC gone mad” stories.

It works. People - apparently - choose to be this stupid.

I’ve never seen an anti pc person get anywhere near as worked up as the woke types. Not in real life nor in this thread.

I mean, come on guys, something as harmless as a discussion on trans people sees the hard lefites absolutely lose their minds. And even get abusive.
