Potential Essendon coaching candidates?

Interesting and insightful read.

I just don’t care anymore. I don’t care if the joint folds.

BRING BACK BEN RUTTEN

Or if you can’t do it. hire Ken Hinkley

I nearly had him as a gif over my post. Yes we could buy him a parrot and a straight jacket and a rocking chair on joining the club.

It would be fascinating if we could peek into the alternative timeline and see how Truck would have gone v Brad fours years on.

Dont think Longmire would want it.

McVeigh as ‘interim’ coach.

Three ticks - premierships at Hawthorn :white_check_mark: , premierships at Brisbane :white_check_mark: and not deemed suitable at Carlton :white_check_mark: .

Under bomber actually

There’s a near zero chance of poaching another club’s assistant to be our interim.

Because that has worked so well.

Which part of their tenure did you consider ‘Successful’?

Yep. I wouldn’t say Thompson’s brief stint as head coach was any more successful than Hird’s.

“to spend more time with his family”

57% win rate.
didn’t have a 10 goal loss.

2014
He unearthed Joe Daniher as a star - he won the Essendon goal kicking that year with 28, and kicked 4 in the final. Debuted Zach Merrett.
Cale Hooker made the All Australian Team.
Heppell - had best year of his career.
Watson - had second best year in career after Brownlow year.
Zaharakis - had best year of career to date.
Chapman - best year at EFC, probably stays longer if Bomber was coach.
Hibberd - had best year career to date
Myers - best year of his career
Baguley - best year of career
Hooker - best year of career to date.
Hurley - best year of career to date, break out year.
Colyer - best year of career
Fletcher - best year since 2007
Carlisle - best year of career

And we still managed to bottle it in the EF.

Still it was our best performance in a final in last 20 years.
We were unlucky with injuries.

Funny, isn’t it? Not a lot wrong with HD’s post and yet the best that team could manage was 7th and an elimination choke

Yeah, and it amounted to sweet FA. I get your point, but 2014 was an average year at best.

0 finals wins.

Don’t get me wrong, I would put Thompson as senior coach today, but he didn’t have any success. Neither did Hird. In fact, they were part of the reason we are still crap today.

2013 we earned a spot in the finals despite the players being told they would not play finals five games out.

2014 we made the finals.
