Calling hirds tenure at Essendon successful when it was arguably the most unsuccessful tenure in football history is pretty funny. It basically killed the club, even before getting into if he was fully to blame or not.

I think many believe that we would have has success if the saga didn’t occur. But it did and we didn’t have success.

why call it Hird’s tenure? He was coach, evans was president and it was he who sold the club down the river. We were flying in 2013 until the players were told ‘sorry you have won enough games to play finals but your former president’s mate demetriou has changed the rules and you will finish 9th.’

I love the optimism of having Hurler and Hooker as best year to date, are you telling me they may be a chance to return ?
He may well have been but I will always maintain the club failed Ben to some extent. Effectively sacked 8 months after we played finals and only in second year. Did the club do anything to try and assist him and offer support or did they just put it in the can’t be stuffed basket?
I still believe the imbeciles running the club were convinced they were going to lure ClaKKKo over

When we got thrashed by c__ton in an elimination final.
Demetriou and Evans never gave us the chance to find out, so of course it is debatable. I do reckon though not choosing Hird rather than the incumbent was a mistake. And we have three years and eight rounds of footy as evidence.

It was always crazy and complete arrogance from all involved throwing someone with absolute zero coaching experience in as senior coach and if we went Hird again it would be just as crazy as he hasn’t done any real coaching since. I don’t think Hird is an arrogant person, but it’s sheer arrogance to think you’re the only person that doesn’t need proper experience in the system, not once but twice.
In saying that, if it does happen I’m not that worried as things couldn’t get much worse and at least the boys club will stop undermining in the background for a while. I also think he couldn’t damage our young players as much as Brad has the potential to. The obvious and sensible decision is to go a proper process and find a young talented assistant coach, that’s the only thing in the modern era that has worked for clubs winning flags.
