Potential Essendon coaching candidates?

I dont think there is any assistants at the hawks we would really want, a ex FC player, ex coach in Ratten, a Ruckman and maybe the only candidate could be david mckay

I think he left Richmond before they were any good though, so the only successful program he has been under is Fagan at the lions. Which Fagan’s first year was some time ago now.

Gia has been under McCartney as a new coach (I actually really rate him, but he was too much of a hard arse for modern day), Bevo was a new coach who came in and won a flag with the Hawks system, then Rutten, Scott (what not to do, but both still had some strengths) and now Mitchell who has developed a premiership level system with an ordinary list in no time. I dunno if Daly has ever coached his own side either. Not against it, but just looking from a resume point of view.

Well, they are doing something right.

This may sound silly, but I really rate Ratten. Both the Blues and the Saints went backwards significantly after he left.

Not saying I want Ratten though.

not sure about Bruce, he has that Fark carlton stink on him and he took over the midfield from tapping in 22 when they were pretty much guns already

Need someone with a bit of a hard edge which I don’t think Gia has.

He spent years under Clarkson as well, and is responsible for back to back premiership midfields. It would be silly to refuse good assistants from successful coaching regimes just because they spent a few years at a crap club. That same logic would eliminate Skipworth, Cara and Gia from consideration for any top role

Bruce sounds good.
Rated him as a player too at the Dees.

Bruce, Kelly, Egan, Lappin, would all be good assistants
Plus also Dangerfield, Sellwood, Perndelbury and Hodge if they were interested

I hear Alan Richardson has a way with words…could be worth looking at

Not all great players and captains make great coaches. Michael Voss exhibit 1.

As assistant coach would offer valuable experience. Voss has been a good assistant in the past.

Plus super ■■■■■.

What was the reason he decided to go back to Geelong?

To get away from the stench which is Essington.

was he midfeild coach at the hawks? I thought he was a development coach or something to that affect if he was that changes my opinion slightly.

arguably the previous three you mentioned are probably lower on the rungs of available coaches at the moment

You can watch interviews with all these coaches online to get a feel for their persona, some have the leadership persona, others like Bruce are a bit uninspiring. Jamie Graham is another, reminds me of Longmuir in that he just seems a bit boring. Longmuir is an ordinary coach imo, that Freo team is stacked with talent but despite win/loss this year, I don’t feel like they’re at the level of a few others, which they should be.

he was development coach for year 1 then worked next to Fagan in the midfield (I believe) for their flags

Ive watched Kelly speak a few times and he seems good in this sense and by all reports is a very funny person. those types of people tend to make great communicators and leaders in my opinion.

Pops Kelly please

I hear plenty of decent stuff about Dale Morris

I don’t care who we pick. I just want us to go through an actual comprehensive ■■■■■■■ process to work out who we pick.
