Its almost irrelevant these days. Most players are almost predominately one sided. Most of the players we drafted during dodo’s era weren’t even that good on their natural foot.
I can’t kick on either foot .. reckon there are a few blitzers in that category
I ended up attending training yesterday also, spewing I didn’t get to meet any other blitzes, would have been good to put a few faces to names!!
Took up with my son and his mates, they got a buzz out it, met a friend who recently got a promoted to a development coach roll which is great for him.. he is pretty bullish about the young kids coming through, hope to have a bit more info as the year moves forward!
It’s largely irrelevant I’d agree.. but always handy when you have players who genuinely kick off both feet well. I’d say Cox is our most natural in that skill.
Was properly exciting in his first year seeing we had a unicorn of a player comfy kicking either side. Not sure I can think of others in the group lihe that .. maybe Duz.
Its most definately handy, its just not that important imo. Yep durham is okay, i think caldwell might be okay too.
Remember when cox kicked that goal on his left up at the SCG in his first year? He is definately more skilled on both feet more than most, but that was the biggest floating helicopter goal i can remember. It certainly wasnt a flush, skilled goal ![]()
Sadly it’s being phased out at development level. Staggering to see how many kids coming through the system have either a poor or non opposite foot
Its not really staggering its just a sign of the modern style. The game is too fast paced to be risking kicking on your opposite and focused on creating space so you can utilise your preferred foot, as turnovers are just so costly these days.
I’m talking more at a junior level. It’s not really taught at juniors and then over here they are off to the SANFL at 12-13 and little time spent on it down there.
When I was in juniors it was drummed into us nd if you weren’t able to kick on your opposite foot your chances of making it on to a SANFL list was made more difficult. I remember at tryouts it was one of the drills that we spent much time on
Yep probably right. Prefer a classy footballer than someone who isn’t the greatest footballer but can kick on both feet.
Why don’t they update the training times on a Friday?
So if you want to go and have a look on the Monday you actually know what time training starts
For the regular track watchers, is this the most tackling you’ve seen in preseason? It is being commented a lot on in reports supported by footage supplied by club and onlookers.
McGrath still can’t
McGrath can kick. It’s his decision making and match awareness that’s the issue.
Just look for the group that includes a bunch of people you wouldn’t ordinarily expect to be hanging out with each other, and you’ve probably found them.
I’m planning to be there tomorrow. Not telling you which side of the of the odd group I’ll represent.
If only they did a sausage sizzle. $3. I’m in.
In fact can I bring my bbq and make thousands (of friends) who’ll be back next session.
Too easy PR and some money for the effort.
Imagine the new player feedback. This joint is buzzing. Word gets around. Easy win addition to the grand plan.
We used to do what was called circle work, constant ball movement in a big circle, clockwise (L) & anti-clockwise (R). Started around under 11s, through to seniors.
He’ll play every week and meet that contract trigger ![]()
Not on his left he can’t - he’s hopeless
