Even at local level, clubs have a time limit to dispose of the ball in certain zones.
Two second across the ground will be interesting.
Ben McKay takes a saving mark in the square and has two seconds to move on. Yikes!

Under match conditions, the time ball held will vary. The two second rule imo, is a decision to stop the look around and chip it sideways mentality we have had over the past few years. If the mindset is to move the ball forward quickly, this can only be a good thing. Turnovers may result and contested ball may increase as well, but, hey, let’s play like the big boys.

Is it possible the Merrett wanting out saga could be the kick in the backside/wakeup call this club has needed for decades?

What dates are they training? Might pop by one day if it lines up with my schedule.

All I see is a bunch of players who have ā– ā– ā– ā–  all idea how to defend transition football.

How many times have we tried the quick ball movement, attacking game plan in the past 20 years though? It always comes unstuck, because for 20 years we haven’t been able to implement a grid team defence behind it.

So it might just be the old Essendon, a full shootout and get beaten 100 to 150 instead. It needs to be a balance to be effective, like the lions have the kick and mark still style backed up by the attacking element. I hope we retain the kick mark style too, otherwise we’ll get thrashed on turnover.

Barring injuries, I can’t see how he gets a game.

If this club could be fixed by kicks up the backside, we’d be going for our ninepeat this year given the amount of boots we’ve taken.

Ben McKay?

I mean, I’m not exactly his biggest fan. But he is absolutely playing every week as long as he isn’t injured.

Mon and Fri are the main sessions

Any particular time?

Have to say they had two main drills for an hour. One was offensive ball movement & the other was defensive system against opposition ball movement. Players went from one side to the other in these drills with urgency. Had to switch on for both areas

tbf, we also haven’t prioritized good kicks in 20 years either

Great report Scooter. Glad to see they’ve upped the intensity and actually seem to care about missing targets.

I’m excited about Max G. I’ve heard from a couple of sources, one who played with him at the Chargers and one who played with him at Vic Metro that he’s way underrated.
