Pre season Training from 10/11/25

For those that are watching training, with the “focus on speed”… after disposal is the player releasing the footy then getting into a defensive position with just as much intensity, or we going to get absolutely burnt on turnover again cos all those attacking players are out of position?

Excellent post.

I have only been to 1 training session in my life and I was underwhelmed by the professionalism of the group. It really is great to hear that they are training like they should be playing.

Lets hope the execution of this is better than the Matt Knights “helter skelter” version all those years back.

For me, his is too slow in movement and moving the ball, this combined with his average disposal, makes him a liability we can’t afford.

If he plays Round 1 the Hawks will run him off his legs.

I think it’s more he and others held too much ‘say’ and everything was kinda through them. Especially when you bring in the Merrett co conspirators like Stringer, Laverde, hind and others. You could also throw Gia into that category from the coaches too.

Now they are gone the new brigade of Redmond, McGrath and below have just stepped up and said where doing it our way and you (Zac) and others can ■■■■ off.

I wonder if this even changes selection as well.

Totally agree.

But he absolutely is playing.

When you watch the Lions continually lead up you get frustrated, wishing ffs, keep up with him. They are so well drilled, they know what’s ahead, and break quickly to receive. Hopefully we can play to a fast moving system. It’s the old playing on is only half the game, playing to receive the play on is just as important.

My favourite bit in the article was this:

“the next evolution under Brad Scott appears increasingly likely: going longer and more direct by foot.If this becomes the preferred method, it will demand a reliable, consistent forward structure with even numbers ahead of the ball so teammates further up the ground have a constant reference point to target”

It’s great to hear about our new training regime but ■■■■ me what have we been doing for the last 5 years. What a complete waste of time.

This this this.

Great to hear of the impact of our new high performance team but WTF has Brad Scott been doing during this seemingly lax and low intensity former regime? Did he have an opinion on the matter? Should he be accountable for any of it?

The 2 sec thing is a recognition that the best options are available before the opposition get back to position themselves defensively in reaction to wherever the ball is. It’s not rocket science. The longer you take the harder it gets to find space except in areas where it doesn’t hurt (eg accross the back line). It’s just trying to embed in the players that that is the way to go. When the season starts it won’t be a “rule”, just a mindset.

Yep, its great that we are finally trying to do the right thing

But why has it taken until Brad’s 4 years to set up a proper training session with actual standards???

Being on notice from higher ups I reckon

Geez! Looks like we’re getting sucked in again by the club! It’s only true if we’re playing well in late July/ August!!! Don’t follow the social media posts everyone.

One of the Zero Hangar lads was into Kondog big time. Said he was one of his 2025 draft favourites and that Collingwood were very keen on him.

From Fiona @ bomberbanter

Kondo is probably the most polished of all the draftees (so far)- in the kicking and decision making department. His contested work needs beefing up but that will come the more confident he gets’

I think we have a special one here, just like Clarke and Johnson I think we have another late draft bargain

I’m not sold on Clarke and Johnston yet

Clarke was pretty damn good for a first year player, showed heaps of positive signs. Couldn’t really ask for more from him
