Classic one way runner. He’ll fit right in.
I dont mind us being low key this off season but i do miss media fluff pieces
Still blows my mind how many people think this is a good thing.
Very very hard to run by yourself, especially if you go too hard early and the lactic is building up. Far easier to run with the bunch at a even tempo
'twas a joke… but in seriousness, the kid had a stellar season after missing 3 months with a broken foot, imagine what he could do with the fitness he will acquire in the AFL system for a couple of years.
So you’re saying he’s prone to bad decision making?
Greg Williams was considered slow but won 2 Brownlows. He had a great footy IQ. It would be better for Tsatas to have that IQ than to be winning 2km time trials. Btw he is a potential Brownlow winner with his break out speed. Add endurance would make him even better!
Thanks Nackers. Someone posted a twitter report saying “Wright copped what looked like a minor injury late in session”.
Have a look at the photos of the players standing on one leg on top of a stool with a barbell on their shoulder. Now I know this is good for core strength, but is this risking a knee or ankle injury if they lose balance.

We don’t want any uncoordinated hacks that lose balance!
They are doing some loaded step ups. All training involves inherent risk, but in order to facilitate adaptation stimulus must be adequate.
In short, yes, but much more likely to help mitigate risk of injury in game scenarios.
As an aside, be great if they were training in shoes anywhere near appropriate for the task.
I don’t recall ever seeing Zach Merrett place well in these time trials. But I also don’t think running capacity has ever been an issue for him.
I reckon he’s more in the “repeat short bursts of high speed” category.
So we used pick 5 and 25 on players that can’t complete time trials?
Lol of Philipou smashes the pre season ar Saints
Time trial reporting…
Classic Essendon “player x ran this far really well”.
Love those weekly performance updates.
I want the “player x kicked 4 goals, we won, and they didn’t get injured” performance reports.
Someone with physical science experience will know for sure but guessing could be related to the spate of syndesmosis injuries of late and be targeted strength training for the lower leg rather than core work.
Like any weight training so long as it’s taught and supervised correctly then shouldn’t be an injury risk
Sorry if I missed it but was Harry Jones at training today ? Did he run the 2km time trial?
Single leg strength, control and stability (■■■■ word but sums it up a bit), not really related to mitigating syndesmosis. Just a good exercise that has numerous benefits. Coupled with the single leg RDL it is clear they are doing a bit of a single leg strength session, perhaps under some pre-fatigue.
Even when properly instructed, all training holds risk (by the very nature of progressive overload)
To be fair if player x is kicking 4 goals in December it’s of no use to us.
From Nackers report it seems that he was not there.
