That’s not about Shiel in isolation. It’s about everyone buying into a team first mentality and that becomes infectious. It’s about the attitude of the playing group as a whole.

I think there’s been some improvement in that area tbh, if a team has barely been doing those things for years you can’t expect suddenly to be best in the league at it. We definitely saw more shepherding etc last year than last few years past to my eye

At afl level surely this is a thing the coach talks about. Hell even when i played local footy it was discussed. But then again our coach is brad scott.

Listening to this interview worried me with the comments about ‘we want players to be versatile’ then listing guys like sheil as a defender and McGrath as a mid. We have a guy that is flexible in El hawli, instead of trying to plug gaps everywhere with old blokes that are washed up or tried and failed in other positions before, actually give the young guys that can play these positions a crack.

He was answering a question by the social media guy that named dropped Shiel and Merrett. I wouldn’t read too much into it. Earlier in the interview he talked at length at how prepared the rookies were as well.

I see it with other clubs too, it’s more about drawing the player and crating the overlap. In the 80s and 90s you would have shepherded the running player.

The over analysed tackle, to be honest if Kako didnt get Hobbs then Cady would have. I like Hobbs but his biggest flaw (in real matches) is actually keeping his feet…
Celebrate two young guns setting a pressure standard. Hobbs will be aware in this situation next time.
