Or sprints ahead of his teammate with the ball to keep them safe from oncoming players.
Our team forgets this stuff or we sack players that do these things.
No he won’t. Gets caught out far too often.
Agree. Convinced many don’t actually pay attention when we play
Shiel is playing for another year in reality. He will gain Alot of possession in the backline so expect another contract.
He would be putting his hand up for that role no doubt.
Don’t think the saints will move on him next year they too are rebuilding their list.
That escalated quickly
I often wonder how the pecking order works. Obviously if the captain calls for the ball you give it to him, but are guys like Parish and Sheil going to lay a shepherd or hand the ball off to Durham or Caldwell, let alone Hobbs or Tsatas, if they can help it?
Heppell did this too much in the end, he couldn’t kick and couldn’t run so he’d always just pass it off, but at some point someone has to take a risk and some blokes just always want to be that guy (Stringer), whether they are in the best position or not, whether they are playing for a contract or not.
We want the coaches to notice the 1%’s, but the guys that do that like Guelfi get criticized for not getting enough possessions, and if they don’t get enough possessions then they probably don’t get noticed.
It’s an interesting thing…
Depends on team culture I suppose.
If the coach, the skip and one or two big personalities make it plain its expected everyone is absolutely all in and tackles hard, does the 1%s etc. then that’s what’ll reign within the side.
My take is that such attitude starts from the top and becomes imprinted upon the team. Success hopefully follows as does the hardened commitment of players.
No point otherwise. Apart from picking up a handy pay each week I suppose.
I agree. Diving on the ball just won’t cut it today
Re the tackle, it was Lee Harvey Oswald on the grassy knoll. Netflix working on a doco re closure to this saga to help everyone sleep at night
Well I have run out of threads to follow actually, apart from who’s died, and who’s our father sons, and who’s in our VFL. (at least they seem positive)
Also, because no one can actually start a new training thread each time and just latches on to this one is completely annoying imo.
Came back after a few days to see if there was any new training updates only to find people still complaining about a 5 second clip of Hobbs getting tackled. Nice.
You’re telling me there was another tackler?!
Well it certainly wasnt DYL on the grassy knoll ffs
ffs
Teams are split into 2 ovals, usual ball-movement drills working it from HB through the corridor and then hitting the leading fwd.
ADW in a moon boot but overheard him say to Dan McPherson that he doesn’t need surgery and should only be a 2-3 week thing.
Parish, McKay & Caldwell running laps at a solid pace, Guelfi jogging laps at a slower pace.
I was at training on Tuesday for a short time. I arrived at 9.30 thinking it was a 10am start but it didn’t get going til 10.30 and I stayed til 11.15.
So this is what I saw.
The first drill on the outer wing was for the forwards. Quick ball movement down the wing after an outlet pass and then the forwards doubling back towards the goals. You have to be impressed with Caddy and Kako. They are just pure energy. Caddy is like a little kid, bouncing around, in-between drills, grabbing the ball, snapping at goal. Kako was never far from Caddy like a dog snapping at his heals.
Then the defenders came to the wing and did a very simple drill where they went end to end transitioning the ball. The only pressure was from 3-4 coaches. Kicks were short and punchy and to leading players on the 45. We did ok at this drill but it should have been faultless with no pressure. I’ve got to say Reid is a beast and can kick really well. If he makes it we have a chance of some success. He’s that unique.
Several groups rotated through this. ADW has a presence and was very clean. SEH was also very clean. Duursma looks fit. I’m always surprised at how slight he is seeing he goes in so hard. Hopefully he can stay fit as he’s very important with his defensive running.
Then they split into two groups. Black probables stayed on the main oval whilst the red possibles went to the other oval.
They did a full length drill where the ball after being marked by a defender was rebounded quickly. The most interesting note was that Merrett was the the usual outlet pass and first kick from defense. Perhaps a new role off half back. I did like how we ran in waves instead of just letting McGrath take the ball, run randomly, bounce and then turn over whilst everyone else watches. We seem to be working harder to support and spread the ball.
Then they swapped ovals. I watched the red possibles for while. The drills were much simpler and mostly in the forward half. Hayes was in this group and I wonder what he is thinking. Another year in the VFL?? If he doesn’t get a crack this year will he request a move?
Gerryn moved well but his body doesn’t seem AFL ready. His looks like Grundy but moves way better.
Then I went to the other oval where they we doing half ground forward entries. 2MP and Draper were working together in the first setup. Draper worked really hard to get down the ground and into position. He looks in good shape. Someone reported Parish was injured but he looks in ripping shape and moved well.
Then that tackle happened right in front of me and I had to go.
Ben McKay did some small amount of recovery with Guelfi on oval two before heading inside.
Then Guelfi did a lot of laps on the main oval.
Doesn’t that just make it easier to unfollow?
I prefer different threads, so that if training report morphs into a bitchfest, which usually happens after a few days, then at least the current thread seems positive until the next one comes along lol
Actually…
Got you confused with another poster.
Thought you were ignoring threads because all that mattered was on field performance.
My bad.
Carry on.
