Preseason Training 11/11/24 (and onwards till someone creates a new thread)

Kicked 43 goals for the season won the the clubs goal kicking second year in a row

Held his end of the bargain has every right to hold his team mates accountable.

It was very surprising and of course disappointing to see Stringer miss those close shots for goal in the second half of the year. Anyone who watches us play will know that Stringer is usually a beautiful
kick for goal . Let’s see who kicks goals this year. The posts about Stringer are most annoying to say the least.

Agree. The club and Stringer have both moved on, yet plenty of Blitzers can’t, they are Frozen, when they should be singing; “Let it go, Let it go…”

Bit of sarcasm towards Langers and the senior players taking us to the promised land now that we have got rid of Stringer, hence Scapegoat.

I would say don’t let people string you along about stringer - I mean stringer things have happened but still

No he didn’t keep his end of the bargain.
Missed goals at crucial times (ie Anzac Day).

And could only muster 15 goals in the last 10 games.

and likely was playing under duress.

I’m not expecting any more goals from Langford - maybe 40 again.

Langford 40
Caddy 30
Kako 20
Draper 20
Gresham 20
Perkins 20
Martin 20
even spread across the forwards is what we need.

(I think Wright might kick 50 in the VFL)

“Playing under duress” doesn’t give him a pass. He didn’t have a gun to his head. If you’re not right the best decision to make is not to play.

I don’t think it’s control. I think its the stubbornness of the coaches to really push their gameplan.

How often have you heard “We didn’t play they way we wanted to play”. That’s because the opposition didn’t let you!

My two cents regarding the goals situation.

2024 Goals (forwards)
Draper: 11
Langford: 43
Stringer: 42
Caddy: 9
Gresham: 19
Wright: 19
Guelfi: 15
Jones: 18

Total: 176 goals

With Stringer gone, Guelfi likely missing the first half of the season and Wright seemingly not in the best 23, we require another 76 goals from our forwards alone to break even for goals in 2025. Yes, this is assuming Wight and Guelfi don’t play at all which I think is highly unlikely. So to be fair, let’s say Wright and Guelfi play some games and kick some goals but less than 2024. Assuming this, our forwards need to make up around another 60 goals.

2025 goals (being “realistic”)
Draper: 20
Langford: 45
Caddy: 25
Gresham: 20
Wright: 10
Guelfi: 6
Jones: 20
Kako: 15
Perkins (I’ll include him as a forward in 2025): 8

Total: 169 goals (-7)

Being realistic about even to slightly less goals in 2025.

Is Bewick’s son ready to play in 2025?

I reckon these bunch of draftees we recently got is going to improve in this massively.

I do agree with this. Along with kako being with us for a number of years mow though he has always been like this- at the club majority of the time

I think your total for Perkins is very low there, he kicked 5 goals last year playing mainly mid. If he is mainly forward I would expect him to at least match his 2023 result of 18 goals.

Reality is we are the 4th youngest team this season, take out Goldy and we are probably 2nd or third youngest team.

More this season about getting experience into the younger player, whilst some of the senior players pass on their experience and work on their own craft and especially work on their bodies through recovery sessions etc to give them best chance of playing most the season.

Our tilt for finals was last year in the coaches eyes. Now is the rebuild, more delistings/trades a end of this year, so we can bring in more young talent.

You seem to have forgotten about goals from midfield.
Which I definitely think will happen this season.
Durham, Caldwell, Parish when fit and Zach will add quite a few on the burst. Even Shiel and Redman might lob a few.

We will score plenty without Jake, as much as we’ll miss him.

EDIT: And I forgot about Nic Martin … ffs. Goals galore

This is pretty pessimistic.

I think if it’s probably unrealistic to have Draper as 20 goals but Wright out of the team. If Draper is tracking for only kicking 20 goals for the year playing predominantly forward he will be dropped (or Bryan dropped) and Wright will play and kick a lot more than 10 goals.

Nic Martin kicked 15 goals playing half back last year and isn’t even on that list. I expect him moving up the ground and midfield we will see a 20+ goal season from Nic.

I think Kako will also get closer to a goal a game at 20+.

I was just comparing forwards of 2024 vs the potential forwards of 2025.

Of course, if each mid can kick an extra couple of goals we’d be much better off.

Remember in 2017 when our forward line was going to be;

F: AMT Daniher Fantasia
HF: Stringer Stewart Smith
