Anyone know the best way to upload & share videos here without having to post them on X first?
streamable works well iirc
Were we kicking uphill or downhill?
I’ve uploaded to Vimeo then shared it to here but defeats the purpose
Interesting take, considering I don’t think it could have been more obvious that he had invested a lot of time in to improving it last season.
But go ahead and see whatever you want to see I guess.
Not quite Cerberus levels yet.
Trying to stay calm and … what was it?
Seems like he needs to keep investing.
He probably took it from deplorable to well below average… so to that I would agree
It’s still pretty deplorable. If he played for another club I’d have laughed
Training report for 7th Dec
Players came out at 8am. First hour was a set of various handball movement drills. Has been a bit of a theme with fast handball through traffic. Handball mainly had to go forwards and make sure metres are gained through traffic. Had three different scenarios with handball drills in different areas of the ground. One specific was in limited space along the boundary line. Laverde was quite vocal in coaching the younger players through these drills. Always explaining to them positioning and when to handball outside and inside to benefit the team. Nice to see that side of Jayden.
Rehab group - Johnson, Menzie, Caldwell, McKay, Setterfield. Cox 60% of session.
Team then went into about 80 mins of full match sim with two umpires present.
Was windy which did make some kicking not as crisp as you would hope. I did feel in general players were a bit rusty with first match practice . Few fumbles and missed vision of targets to players in good positions. It’s Dec 7th and windy so i am not going to be too critical. I did promise myself to make sure i post all the good and bad.
Some players thats stood out to me
Lual- this was as confident as i have seen Lual. Was very pro-active and just looked comfortable. Got plenty of it by running hard to space and demanding the footy. Was mostly efficient also
Caddy- Nate did some things today that we simple haven’t seen from an Essendon forward for a long time. In the first 2 mins there was a long ball that came in and he decided he would get on the shoulders of Laverde( maybe Hayes) and take a speccy 5m out. He was moving great and defenders found him very difficult to stop. He took two - one handed marks that in no way had the right to pull down with one hand. I thought both times ball was going over his head. Was quite incredible to see live. Kicked a great snap from the boundary line 45m out. Just a fantastic talent that also works hard.
Hoare- Will did himself many favours with how he attacked the ball. Had some great moments today. Was a little more athletic than i thought but i think he also has slimmed down a few kilos and got himself quite fit. Kaine Baldwin did start training today but then went off 60 mins in. No doubt he has some injury he is still managing.
Hayes- had what you call a very solid professional session. Punched everything that came his way and ran to present a target when required. No doubt improving
Wright- looked dangerous the whole session and i did notice how well he is moving. Kicked a few nice goals
Kako- played half the match sim and easily did enough to know he will help the side no end. His evasiveness and link up in chains was great to see.
Day Wicks- looked comfortable among the senior boys. Took some nice marks and quite competitive internally. Seems to have an internal drive.
Vigo- this kid is one to watch. Kicked three goals today. I would still like him to show more aggression at times but he always looked dangerous. He does have something.
Draper- Draper is moving great but his decision making and panic kicking did frustrate. Just has to be better and think through the game to help reduce turnovers. McGrath sometimes similar
Duursma looked to of hurt his hammy. Either tightness or a strain from afar. Took no further part in training.
Overall i still want us to pick up the intensity. Not saying it was bad but i felt they could go harder in two way running. Holding them to a higher standard this off season. Brad Scott was not present today- unsure why.
Solid session but they can do better
Sit tight be confident
R I P Duursma
Apart from the usual from Barham and the players being asked who their favorite player is the following might be of interest.
-
Merrett seems very upbeat and positive, happy with the direction of the club the new draftee etc. Just had a vibe about him. Bullish I suppose. He very much likes what Kako could bring to the side
-
Martin mentioned he is working on his stoppage craft and tackling and after a 3 min answer about what position he will play, spat out that he is training with the mids.
-
Draper was asked who he likes to beat more, Pies or the Blues, he said the Pies and actually spat out the line ‘get a big dog up ya Collingwood’ god bless him haha
-
A key take away was the flexibility to play multiple positions most of the players spoke about. A lot of interchanging between half back, mids, half fwds and wings. We saw Redman play some inside mid time today and Merrett at half back.
Awesome to hear Hoare is doing well I think being in a full time professional environment he will bloom, also my boy Vigo .
Did Nguyen join in the match sim?
lets hope we can say that again post anzac day in 2025.
Yes Nguyen did for half the session. Definitely takes the game on but got caught a few times to Duursma and Caddy.
