Queen Elizabeth II to King Charles III

It was a bit of a shock to Wills at the reception he got in his visit to the Caribbean.
We are so far behind in our fascination with the Royalty. Here, there’s still an aura.
While Royal visits here no longer have adoring crowds, they are unlikely to have the outright public distaste expressed in the Caribbean. A few protests maybe, but our multicultural mix has less influence than a majority descended from Slaves.
Nostalgia ain’t what it used to be, accept that the British Empire died long ago, the visual props of the Royalty to pretend that it’s still there aren’t working.

I am quite certain that they would willingly relinquish their role as head of state if we asked them to.

But we haven’t asked them to.

British Royalty could take the initiative and do a Brexit in refusing to act as Head of State for other nations.
Camilla has had to take up a full time job as a boomer ( didn’t engage in any employment until she tied the knot with Charles) not simply coming out of retirement. It’s compounded by Royal ill health. She can’t be subbed out or rested . There is an urgent need for British Royalty to divest of some jobs.

Because we have too many sycophantic toads who hold out for the day when they can get a knighthood or other such useless title.

It’s a long time since Imperial titles were awarded to Australians. We introduced the Order of Australia in about 1974

And yet Abbott tried to bestow a knighthood on Prince Phillip did he not?

Before then, the Fraser Government sought to bring back Imperial honours as part of the Australian honours system. It didn’t last long. MBEs and OBEs were second rate.

It was an Australian knighthood. Originally the Order of Australia had knighthoods and damehoods; Zelman Cowan was a Knight of the Order of Australia (as well as a knight under the British system). That category of Australian honour was abolished in 1986 and remained abolished until Tony Abbot made what must rank as one of the most stupid political decisions ever made in this country and reintroduced it in 2014. The reaction was predictable and it was re-abolished a year later.

Appointment of a Monarchist as ABC Chair didn’t go down well,

Surely it is not as bad as Morrison single-handedly wiping billions off each of several of our various export markets to China?

Was it originally when separate Oz honours list, or added on by an LNP Government.

I don’t quite understand your question. This is from Zelman Cowan’s Wikipedia page:

“Cowen’s first honour was a Knight Bachelor (KB) in 1976. When appointed Governor-General he was made a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George (GCMG) and Knight of the Order of Australia (AK) in 1977, and sworn into the Privy Council in 1977 (Rt Hon). When Queen Elizabeth II visited Australia in 1980 she appointed Cowen a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO).” (My emphasis)

And this is from the Order of Australia page:

“The category of Knight (AK) or Dame (AD) of the Order of Australia was created by Letters Patent issued by Elizabeth II Queen of Australia on 24 May 1976 on advice from the Fraser Liberal-National coalition government. It was discontinued by her on 3 March 1986 on advice from the Hawke Labor government. Existing knights and dames were not affected by the removal of the category from the Letters Patent.”

You mean there’s another ? Pray tell !

The separate Australian honours list was introduced in 1975, with bits and piece leftovers in titles from the Imperial honours. The LNP elected to continue to confer them, the ALP didn’t confer them, stuck to AO etc.
Zelman could double dip in the Australian and Imperial list as he was the Monarch’s rep in Oz
The UK practice was once to confer honorary titles on non Brits, but as Australians were Australian citizens and British subjects up to the seventies ( that was in my first passport) we were eligible.
Nowadays, the Brits have dispensed with the hon second class category of knighthoods etc.
There’s a trajectory of historical time lines to factor in.

Hey, has anyone else got one of those new coins in their change? The queen is looking terrible.

Very butch with that short haircut, and, darst I say it, what appears to be… an adams apple.

Just your typical royal headline…

Is the horse ok?
