Rd 16: Ess v The Other Tin Rattlers A.K.A Kangaroos

Amazing.
For around five or six weeks people have been screaming for Giles to get a run.
It took some late changes to get him on an emergency list for last week’s game.
After a bye in the VFL, I doubt he would have garnered enough fitness to be named as backup ruck / forward option.
I don’t think he’ll get a call up this week.

Although…
North run with three tall forwards. We might have to play Hurley, Hooker and Gwilt on them.
Maybe play Steinberg back and Gwilt forward, but I don’t think we can afford not to have Hooker down back against them.

not the bring giles up posts.

Charlie Dixson got hold of them. They’ll be putting a lot of work into Daniher, tall forwards are their weakness hopefully Hooker can be the difference.

The only way Giles would work in ruck is resting in a forward pocket. He’d pull a tall defender out of the action?
Can’t see it happening.

i bet we get troy

It is a really tough one for selections this week. Our finals chances are gone so I’m not up for bringing in a number of older players.

North’s height is an obvious issue so Fletcher and Giles might be likely. But for who for is a tough one. I think Steinberg needs a chance at AFL level and don’t like playing youngsters for one game and then dropping them. I’m not sure how Fletch would actually perform after being out for a month.

That said, the game will be won in the middle and we’re struggling in all areas at the moment anyway. I’d bring in Giles for the ruck/forward option and Hocking for toughness in the centre. We’re going to need a tagger and I’d prefer Hocking to Melksham even if Melk gets up.

In: Giles, Hocking
Out: Browne, Ambrose

B: Baguley, Hooker, Gwilt
HB: Gleeson, Hurley, Steinberg
C: Stanton, Heppell, Hibberd
HF: Zaharakis, McKernan, J Merrett
F: Edwards, Daniher, Howlett
R: Giles, Goddard, Z Merrett
Bench: O’Brien, Laverde, Hocking, sub: Ashby

Emergencies: Ambrose, Dalgliesh, Langford, Kav

I only start this thread early to note that at least some tickets for this North home game are currently being sold at 40% off.

What’s the deal with this and how does one access the discount?

North run a similar or slightly smaller setup to Melbourne
Waite/Petrie fwd
Goldstein ruck
Brown fwd/ruck

Dees had Hogan/Watts fwd; Gawn ruck; Dawes fwd/ruck. And Howe/Vandenberg up around half forward. And threw McDonald forward too for some reason.

Assuming hocking gets up which everyone seems to think is definite, have i missed something?

If browne has to miss i’de bring in dalgleish
Agree with Giles for Ambrose
I think hocking is less than a certainty to be ready

Yep, this young team is our future.

Interesting to see Hurley grab the responsibility with no Fletch. He’s gone to another level.

Giles must come in, but won’t.

I agree Giles hasn’t been great at VFL level… probably closer to poor BUT we need a 2nd ruck option so badly you just have to run with it.

Ambrose in the ruck is downright embarrassing.

We have played a grand total of one game with two ruckmen and it worked ok… I’d love to see the coaches try it and see if it helps both the midfielders and forwardline.

Sorry, expired now.

Was on FastTix. Check it on Fridays.

Has Giles been good enough for a call up?

Has Giles been good enough for a call up?

When your other option is ambrose in the ruck, yes he has been
Heppell gets more hitouts than ambrose

I know who I’ll have as captaincy loophole this week in SC.

Yeah, but he is no good around the ground he becomes a liability. I’ll rephrase, is he fit enough for a call up?

ashby deserves a full game. Doubt hocking will get up. I’d like to see Giles but i’m a broken record on that and i doubt we will. Hope Browne gets up.

their tall forward line is a worry. No doubt they will bring thomas back in and he will kick a bag.

In my opinion all he needs to do is be the battering ram ruck then go to the goal square while smack does his work up the field
Giles is a more than capable mark and kick forward and will give smack a much better chop out than ambrose
Ambo only has value really because he tackles well so if giles can go to the goal square and kick 2 he will be as valuable if not more so

Glad we’re getting them after a win. They only play well after they’ve been flogged.

Yep agree, they will beat the team after us by 200
