I like the suggestions of Courtney Ugle, Andrew Mc or Senator Briggs… i would love any of them as Indigenous Support person … i would add Dean Rioli to the list.

So 12 months ago to much fanfare we announced the additions of Paddy Ryder, Dean Rioli and Quinton Narkle. As well as the welcoming back of Tippa in a playing sense.
A year on, they’re all gone!

That’s sad to read isn’t it. Is Deano gone also?? I don’t recall hearing that…

Yeah was announced just tonight.

We don’t know why he resigned. It might be something to do with the club or it might be something different entirely. I’m not assuming it was any problem with the club.

Personal reasons, ie, he thought the club stank like rancid ā– ā– ā– ā– .

Think there are fair reasons for each individual leaving. But what are we doing after each has left?

We have more indigenous players on the list than a couple of years ago, so that is better.

How will Rioli’s board spot be filled? Will we insist on there being an indigenous person on the board? I hope so.

Look’s like Ryder got replaced by another person.

Narkle probably won’t get replaced as I expect that was a job to enable him to also play VFL.

He probably thought some supporters stank like rancid ā– ā– ā– ā–  too

we simply need to invest in this area again.

I would reach out to
Dale Kickett - Journeyman experienced 6 different AFL clubs would have lots to offer.
Matthew Stokes - Past player - cats winning environment.
Cyril Rioli - get him back involved with footy. even at like just getting involved at a preseason camp.
Gavin Wangeneen & Alwyn Davey, need to get these dads to a few more games of AFL that there sons are playing in.
Che Cokatoo-Collins - maybe get him involved at Board level to take over Dean’s role.

Betts and NLM would be ideal but have other committments.

Sounds like Narkle’s invovlement was pretty hands on.
probably a big loss, and losing Narkle, Rioli, Ryder, walla couldn’t have helped keeping Munkara on the list.

Positive could be that Gresham may have other indigenous brothers that can draw on.
Maybe we could sign young Jack Peris to the VFL side.

or dare I say Phil Egan. AFL shafted him after the Hawks report.

What about Courtenay Dempsey? He came from interstate so would have good life experience for the young indigenous kids. Seemed like a good well liked clubman to me.

doesnt he live in QLD?

Not sure, but just then when I was trying to find out looks like he’s doing social work. Bring him in I say.

We could actually consider an indigenous person with the right skill set who has never played AFL footy.

Pretty sure Demps lives in Melbourne, I know he was living here in 2020 for certain, but I’ve seen him a few times since then helping out with multicultural junior footy programs around the traps.

I’d be offering the gig to Courtney Ugle.
