If you had a BMW 2002 in 1975-ish, I can tell you that a clutch replacement ran to 6 hours labour at $6 per hour per the chamber of commerce flat rates.

Meanwhile, in 1980 an unexpected side effect of higher prices and those pesky metric quantities took down most of Shell’s petrol Bowser’s as the mechanical rates linkages couldn’t cope. 
My only real memories of that era was of pinching grandpa’s morning tea and being mesmerised by the float balls in the Bowser flow windows .
