Tried getting the mods to reopen the priority pick thread but to no avail.
This thread doesnt go far enough as we absolutely should be requesting a priority pick.

They never give priority picks the first year a team hits rock bottom. Don’t be delusional.

I’d happily take a pre-1st round priority pick. The AFL has completely overhauled the bidding rules in the name of draft integrity and told the teams who complained (including a ■■■■, flailing big Victorian club in carlton) to ■■■■ off. I just cannot imagine they’d do all that and then say “but Essendon can have a first round priority pick”.

Every single other club that has put in an assistance package request has received something.
The Board would be negligent in its current position to not be requesting assistance.
Start from the top asking for a start of 1st round PP.

The AFL aren’t gonna wanna do it while Tassie are getting started. They will do it this year.

No they haven’t. The demons asked in 2014 and got knocked back. The lions and blues asked in 2015 and got rejected. Notable thing about that is that 2014 was the year the AFL flagged they were changing the bidding system because people kept complaining, and 2015 was the year it actually changed, which is the situation we find ourselves in now.
We should ask. I wouldn’t even be particularly surprised if we got an end of first round draft pick this year and next (after FA compensation picks and the new bidding picks it probably slots in at around 24 or so this year and somewhere in the 30s) and some extra rookie spots.
Richmond won 2 games in 2024. No priority picks.
WCE won 3 in 2023. No priority picks.
