Corrupt is a word that describes something dishonest, morally broken, or damaged from its original and pure state.
The world would be a better place if the AFL went bust.
Hopefully the money pit GWS and lower television deal starts its collapse.
So not really an assistance package if four other clubs qualify for the same compensation, two of which have already been granted assistance. As I said last week, it seems like they’ve only just cottoned on to the high probably of a bid this year which in turn has changed their tune with us.
Their new “compensation” rule also happens to handicap those bottom 5 clubs in their ability to negotiate like previous years as you will lose that additional pick if you trade back for a favourable deal. Makes it a lot harder for us to actually leverage our draft position but hopefully we can work something out with Carlton or Port.
When you factor that in, along with the heavily diluted upcoming Tassie drafts and the AFL’s refusal to adjust the DVI or assist us with academy players in any capacity it feels like we’re really drawing a short straw here. If we have another year like this one then they can expect us to come knocking again.
An assistance package that is only there if there is a player bid in the top 5 and you lose access to that player. Doesn’t sound like an assistance package to me, just sounds fair enough.
The crazy part is out of all 5 clubs allowed the compensation bid pick, Essendon has the largest chance of bid not matched with 3,000 points attached. So we then have the greatest likelihood of losing any assistance pick.
What a slap in the face, we should knock back the rookie picks just on principle alone. Would be the weakest “assistance package” given yet and what then if we are just as bad next year in a massively compromised draft?
22 or 23 seasons without a finals win in a comp with equalisation and won 3 games out of 40. The corruption at AFL House would make FIFA proud
Thank the AFL kindly and reject the package. It’s about bloody time our ex-players who sit in the media start backing our club up and start calling this crap out. An absolute load of garbage.
Yep, the coompensation is meant to be for the fact we have a top 5 pick but can’t access the talent we want, not related to continued sucktitude.
I heard Brendan Gale called Greg Swan straight after the game and said their reserves have just spoilt the dream…you can’t give them anything; they are on the march back and we mustn’t let them be good again.
Absolutely yes but also the club should finally grow a set & call out the AFL themselves. Given its not even confirmed yet the club should be making a public comment now in the hope of at least putting some pressure back on the AFL. Maybe simply frame it as replying to the story to say IF that’s the case the club would be extremely dissapointed in the AFL’s double standards. The AFL should be completely transparent & explain exactly why West Coast & North Melbourne recieved picks but not Essendon.
As long as the club keep being pushovers we will continue to get shafted.
Ouch what a kick in the balls after such a torrid season. What could have possibly changed.
Whatever we do, dont use the 4 extra rookie spots on the Coxs of the world. Take some risks and get a couple of best 22 hits which would be a big win.
We’ll be back asking again next season.
Well, well, well.
Was adamant all along we wouldn’t get any meaningful compensation this year and here we are.
Twomey’s radar well off once again
If they don’t want to give it to us fair enough, but that reasoning is horrendous.
Basically taking into account Walker and Cochrane are guns so we must bid on them, even if we don’t rate them. Unfair to us and to port/carlton
Not saying Twomey’s a liar. Maybe he was lied to. Maybe there was a change in circumstances.
But he’s no longer reliable at all. Sad that we could all see this coming.
I think in the end it’s a token gesture that isn’t what they’d expected.
I still argue the AFL should’ve supported the club on this, purely due to Tassies actual and whatever they would’ve got next year would be similarly diluted and possibly meaningless too.
It could be seen as glass half full. Extra rookie spits can be valuable should the club successfully pinpoint the right players. Quality players are out there and always get missed so the club can still utilise whatever they get to add necessary experience or find a diamond in the rough.
Assuming another poor year, Next year HAS to include support to combat Tassie and our FS/NGA, either in the form of pre-listing, Tas not bidding or another pick straight after our first.
I guess we will have to hold talks with Farkcarlton and Port to make sure they know we will bid on their preferred players, so as to gain a compo pick.
Will give them time to get their points organised.
I can see many side deals coming out from this situation, sitting outside the draft. What if we gained a beneficial trade from one of these clubs, with a handshake not to bid?
Not ideal at all.
I’d be willing to bet that Essendon, Fark Carlton and Port are already in talks to see if the 3 clubs can help each other out in some way. Might be a situation where if we can somehow get a pick around pick 20 or better we might not bid at all
Farkcarlton and farkport
