Review Norf game #1 for 2023

Phillips needs to be relegated to the VFL and never play another senior game for the club. Bryan must play for the rest of the year, as raw as he is he offers so much more.

Can you do the same analysis for North’s team.

I know those words but that makes no sense :grin:

….bloody risky with Shiel in that case. So we brought him in to only play those few quarters against a team that bats deep in the midfield?

Wow. What a game to see live

I was feeling very deflated given how bad our Q2 was and that trend continued for first part of Q3. Terrible viewing.

Thankfully wrestled the momentum back to hit the lead by 3QT

Last quarter was frenetic, had read both teams had pressure rating over 200 so it was a hot footy

Thank fark we got the win.

I thought North would come to play and would be a contest all game but not the heart stopper
….

Merrett is just a weapon as is Martin

Langford and Ridley continue their good form

Guelfi back been super important

I know Stringer didn’t do a lot tonight but that desperate smother into desperate tackle that eventually saw ball spill out to D’Ambrosio match winner was epic. Well done Jakey.

…

Negatives

Weideman was worst on ground. Can’t put it all on McKay as stopper. There were times Weid should have marked the ball with no body contact put on but just dropped it

Zerk at the the other end was beaten too often, that play where he went to spoil and missed it completely was diabolically bad.

Shiel probably shouldn’t have played. BDB said he is fine post match however. I’m not so sure

Felt like North were getting handballs away too easily in midfield, our tackles weren’t holding them up well enough.

Also seemingly every 50:50 bounce of ball went to them. What’s up with that footy gods!

…

Feels fkn good however that was North’s grand final and they lost by a kick.

Take the win.

Onto Blues we go. I’m glad we had a very tough game this week as won’t be easy next week

F*ck Anzac Day or Dream time.

Playing North is our biggest match of the year, which we pump ourselves up for.

Calders will be a sore boy for the next few days. He looked like he hurt his lower leg just before 3qtr time. Kept cracking in. Light week on the track coming up I reckon.

Just saw them sing the song. Basically spoke it. No gusto at all. Not getting carried away with the win, that’s for sure.

McKay was involved in zero defensive 1v1 contests today according to the AFL stats (which may only be provisional at this stage).

Another random theory I have, which obviously isn’t always correct:

But when you’re a heavy fave such as us today I don’t think you want to kick the first 3 goals (or thereabouts) of matches otherwise the players get ahead of themselves and think they’re in for a walk in the park and their mindset changes and you can’t shake it off when the other team come back.

E.g. today and a few others than spring to mind:

Us v saints in 2009, us v cats in 2011,
Us v blues in 2017.

I genuinely forget this club exists most of the year until we play them or they aren’t playing at 4.40pm on a Sunday.

Fingers crossed, but Wardlow seems to come with built in ump advantage, Tsatas won’t have that :stuck_out_tongue:

I agree. N**** played very well, they were always going to turn up for their Grand Final. We would’ve folded in previous years. Was pleasing to see the boys dig in and grind out the result
