Review Norf game #1 for 2023

And llyod wrecked him by saying we had the toughest fixture of all teams in the first part of the season lols

What a flog Hutchy is

It’s not like we get Norf and West Coast twice then a much of middling sides.

Other double ups include Collingwood Port and Geelong (including in Geelong)

And what would wild card weekend do.

Then they’d be complaining that the team that came 10th had an easier draw than the team that came 11th

They said we’ve got an advantage for playing North twice. After just covering the segment on how much they’ve improved :joy::woman_shrugging:t2:

…easy vs hard draws are not as straightforward as people want to make out. It also depends on the form of the team you’re playing. If they had full or injured lists etc etc etc.

With a caveat with those last points, surely you have to wait to the end of the season and do a ladder based on teams playing each other just once (and using first match they played).

Is such a ladder a thing and if so, how did it look last year - comparing that with the full season ladder?

There is one in particular Blitzer who mostly post after a loss, and hardly ever posts after a win. Their absence after a win is welcome, as even then they still want to be a Negative Nancy.

North were good yesterday. The win was very hard fought and we refused to give up. And we were returning from the west.
Their midfield really stepped up after 1/4 time. Not having Parish and Setterfield has hurt our midfield greatly. As well as Shiel not being 100% fit.
We have an AFL ā€˜lite’ defence, and desperately need a gorilla to come from somewhere down back. And Zerk needs to decide that when he jumps to spoil he has to spoil.
And we are 7/5 without 2MP all year.
Happy days ahead.

Does this Blitzer enjoy plum flavoured alcoholic beverages ?

Rumour has it …

I think too many on here aren’t realising how bad that performance was defensively especially.

Hopefully just a mulligan but if we start falling away it will all make sense.

Genuine lol

On the contrary. Most people realize we dodged a bullet, and were lucky to escape with a win, due to our defensive weakness.

"what are you, Charles Barkley? "

Bit of talk on comparing is to 2021 side and have we truly grown since then. Fact is were a very different side to who we are putting on the park this year. Below was our top goal kickers in 2021 compared to also 2023.

After letting the result settle a few days, here are my thoughts on Sundays game:

  • quite a few people underestimated north and just assumed we’d win by a landslide. I mentioned after the eagles game that if we played in the same manner, we’d struggled against north. North under ratten have been quite competitive and arguably should’ve beaten both us and Sydney

  • our midfield stocks are quite bare at the moment but luckily merrett, Caldwell and Hobbs had a decent crack. I was worried with parish, Shiel and setterfield out that we would drop a couple games during this stretch. Hopefully after the bye, those three mids are back and we would then have a wealth of reliable options to run through the midfield

  • Phillips game probably wasn’t as bad as some made it out to be. I thought he gave our mids first use quite a bit, particularly in the first half. He wasn’t in our bottom 5 players

  • interesting what they will do with Peter Wright. Personally, I’d play Weideman against the blues and give Phillips a spell because Carlton play quite short in the ruck with TDK and JSOS. Weideman can give Draper a chop out in the ruck opposed to JSOS.

  • stringer will need to spend quite a bit of time in the middle to counter the size of the Carlton mids. Keep Langford permanently inside 50 and maybe look to rotate perkins through the middle as well

  • I’d strongly consider Baldwin to replace BZT. BZT has been off his game since the demons game when he rolled his ankle and copped quite a few hidings since. Baldwin is a far bigger body and I’d back him in moreso one on one with McKay and curnow than BZT

  • Wanganeen as a sub could be a good look. With the form he’s starting to show in the twos, bringing him in late in a game with his pace could change a game.

  • does Kelly get a look in? If so, as much as I don’t want him to get dropped, I’d much prefer Massimo gets some full game consistency in the twos. Hinds form is too good to warrant being dropped right now

I think some people get confused between what posters hope will happen, and what they think will happen.
Further, I think some people get confused about how some posters feel if what they hope or think will happen, doesn’t.

I’m a fan.
I’m not an analyst.
I hope we win every game by checks notes 74 points.
I’m rapt if we win any game by one point.

I don’t understand people getting upset when a poster says we’re going to win by ten goals, or thinking that means anything at all for the club.

I don’t think we’re as good as Collingwood, or contending for the flag…but you know what?
So what if I did?
Why does/would that get on so many people’s nerves?

Why can’t fans just be ridiculously over-optimistic?
Beats the hell out of saying we’re going to lose every week.

On the other hand, why am I not allowed to be ridiculously over-pessimistic? It softens the blow when we lose.
