Review the percentage-booster vs Norf - 2024 round 10

The last quarter was super disappointing. Credit to North who played well in the first half. But we took the foot off the pedal in the last when we really should’ve kept the momentum going from the third quarter.

Thinking about it on the train home.

Thats was fine, 7 goal win, up the % by 6, 11 straight against Gorth.

I think the plan was to allow 2MP more time in the ruck.
But he was really having a good game in the forward line and our other forwards were pretty average at best. So we stuck with Goldy as sole ruck all day and managed our way around it.

I’m not too sure if we can play two rucks and have Jones and 2MP in the forward line at Marvel. Especially given we had to rotate players through both wing positions to cover the Duursma and Cox running load.
Pretty confident it can be done at the MCG and you may need to sacrifice a bench spot to rotate the tall forwards / rucks that way.

I only wanted a 30 odd point win, but I was unhappy with that game in the end, it would have been ok if we finished off better.

We were shithouse in the first.

We were much better than them in the second, I know we only have ourselves to blame, but the two blatant HTB not paid were very costly, they would have made good position for us, instead of leading to goals to them.

The third was excellent all round.

The four was flat as, and let them creep the score back, which was the real disappointing part.

People are entitled to critique the performance.

It was by no means perfect. Lots of room to improve upon.

But as Port Adelaide are finding out today, every opposition is dangerous on their day.

It’s good that we could get it done fairly comfortably.

Thats about the margin they’ve been losing by anyway.

Yep, noticeable at the ground that we only really flexed our newfound midfield depth during the third, got on top around the clearances and put the game away. Outside of that , it was a laborious watch and the last quarter was clearly a game management mindset.

Norths mids will be quite formidable in a year or two but they’re a mess in the key posts atm.

Im not happy at all, feels like a loss. We are incapable of putting a team away

Shiel should have had more than two disposals - he was on the ground so long…!!

Yeah. But North are the most honest team in the league.
They haven’t beaten anyone above them on the ladder.

Average loss margin at Marvel was ~41 and we beat them by 40

Take a chill pill boss

I’m with you. At this point I don’t care what else Bryan brings or doesn’t…Goldy needs another ruckman to help him out and Peter Wright needs to stay in our forward line.

We had our foot on their throat going into the final quarter and it appeared as though we went into preservation mode. Bizarre approach, but one I’ve become accustomed to over the years.

Half of that credit for the first half should go to the umps tbh

Not when LDU leaves. They are still highly reliant on him.

Still think the main metric today was getting that % up and we stacked on 6% do that again next week and we should be entrenched in the top 4 coming into our next run of “tough” games.

It looks like it’s a good year to be a decent and consistent footy team.

Most of the other sides around us look deadset average, and seriously inconsistent.

If we keep this level of consistency there is every chance of finishing top 4.

We are still flakes.
We will continue to have flaky moments.
It is what it is.
Have we moved past old flaky moments? Depends how you measure it.
All I know is I’m hungry.

I’m going to have a flake.
