Review THE WIN vs GWS - 2026 round 19 - the kids did it for the kids

this is the biggest and best outcome from the weekend

Just mute me. Don’t need a prissy comment.

There’s a fairly big difference between winning a game off the back of kids working their arse off and going from pick 1 to pick 2

To getting 4-5 meaningless wins late in a season off the back of inconsistent senior players who turn it on when they feel like it and getting pick 9.

People complain we need the elite talent from inside top 5, we’ve got it locked up already and some are still ■■■■■■■■. STFU.

First time I’ve felt excitement watching the team for a long time. Made me realise how much I missed it. I wasn’t sure if I wanted us to win, but watching the spirit in the young guys and the sheer joy in winning I have no doubt now. We needed this as a club, a playing group, and the true supporters amongst us. I was always uneasy about coming last. You should never want that. We lose the first pick, but we gain a smidge of belief and some long overdue self-respect.

The future is coming.

I’m currently walking around Tokyo with my bombers jumper on. That’s how much this win meant to me. (Haven’t put this thing on since rd 1)

Pics of the waitresses or the jumper?

Absolutely the jumper, with some kanji in the background or a passed out salaryman

You must live a sad life if you’re more worried about the draft than a young team enjoying a galvanising win.

The sheer lift in their confidence alone in that second half was worth giving up pick 1

To see the joy on the kids faces, both ours out on the field and those in the crowd was a brilliant sight.

People have moaned about us wasting pick 1, we win a game and people are moaning about us losing pick 1.

Seeing Sharp, Robey, Farrow et al. jumping around at the end made it worth the train ride in. Plus for the first time in a VERY VERY long time there are kids who get to go to school tomorrow and not be embarrassed to admit the follow Essendon.

I’ve been banging on the “we must finish as low as possible” drum for years.

But you know what, I don’t rate Van Hattum. So I have no problems with enjoying a win, and having pick 2.

I got the kanji as well. Great effort

I just don’t need a two minute sugar hit.

I think the funny thing is this game and the much bemoaned freo game from 2024 were both wins that came of the back of dropping the players people constantly complain about us not dropping. It does open the door for the pretty hilarious idea that the coaches are so wrong about players that trying to do a soft tank is why we won.

not really

senior players set the tone. without a tone of cbf, we’re better.

There have clearly been some standout pick 1s but not every year.

There have been a lot of great picks 2s.

There have been some poor picks at both pick 1 and 2.

I’ll take the win and see what happens in the next five weeks.

No pics of the waitresses at the Down Under bar but you can spot the waitresses at the Wood bar across the laneway. No doubt named after former Tigers/Bombers legend Bryan Wood …

saucy somehow remains the king of ragebait. thought everyone knew what was up these days.
