It makes all the difference. It was clear as day that Harley Reid was the absolute standout of his draft class. That circumstance doesn’t apply this year, meaning the gap between pick 1 and 2 is very narrow.
In the very unlikely event a player happens to finish the year exceptionally strongly and becomes an obvious number 1 choice to the point where comparisons are being made to Reid, then yes, we’d miss out.
Would you sacrifice a win that, key point here, the kids were instrumental in, to maintain the number 1 pick in case a player finishes the season in a flurry and becomes as much a stand out as Reid was?
You’re talking as if that game was won off the back of Darcy Parish, Jade Gresham and other hacks that aren’t the future and that we’ve just passed up the out and out clear number one. Neither of those two factors play a role here

It’s not just about how good the player can be, it’s also about having choice of the type of player. We need a ruckman, so do the Tigers. The Tigers may have been willing to trade up to get him, which could have meant a fantastic draft hand either this year or next.
Yes, we need a ruckman. We need all sorts of things. We’ll fill a need at pick two, guaranteed. Richmond are in a similar boat - can’t see them trading up.

Why do people keep banging on that idea that our win vs GWS was anything like North winning and losing out on Harley Reid? There is no situation like that this year at all. It would be a different story if Dougie Cochrane was available, which he isn’t.
Plus there is more rounds to play out, its not like we fell over the line in the last round and lost access to a generation player.
With our pick we will get one of HVH, Arki, Texeira or Drever. Who according to all the draft watchers are almost identical in talent/rating.
