Actually I think the slow the play down/control the play signal/sign went up on the bench but Francis didn’t get the memo and took a more aggressive option to Saad on the wing which didn’t quite hit the target and resulted in a fumble and turnover. Then Ambrose had an awful turnover around the middle. On the flip side it meant tippa snuck one in red time to arrest the slide because Fanta threw caution to the wind and took the game on.
In a refreshingly honest interview, Angus Brayshaw reflected how almost every Melbourne supporter would’ve been feeling at halftime on Friday night.
The Demons had just rediscovered their fierce DNA, slamming on seven second-quarter goals to Essendon’s two in a 23-minute burst that hinted the real Melbourne had finally rocked up to the 2019 season.
“That quarter personified the Melbourne football brand,” Brayshaw told Channel 7 just after the Demons’ stunning seven-goal to two second term.
There’s been a lot of excuses, a lot of talk. But that quarter, we put into practice everything we’ve been training.
“We can beat anyone when we play like that.”
Then the third quarter happened. And if Melbourne produce what it did in the third term against Essendon on Friday night, they’re not beating anyone.
Wow!
That is very embarrassing!
Bet he would like his time over again.
What I took from that 2nd quarter is we didn’t execute our skills and let them back into game via turnovers & our own poor play
not even his mention, just quoted pagan.
It has been taken a little out of context. He did get a little ahead of himself though.
Heh! I’m going to go back and watch the 3rd quarter just to relish the fact they thought they had their mojo back.
Yeah Zaka said they burnt themselves out a little in the second from playing so flat out and it lead to some skill errors. Once they got control of the pace of the game they started playing better again.
I was “shocked to be sitting here” when we turned it around.
Kudos to players.
That isn’t as bad as putting up with Brian ■■■■■■■ Taylor. Really ruined the win having that clown commentating.

I see Parish received 3 votes from the coaches. He was tough and quick and he fills a gap in our midfield. Great to see our mids getting votes. But I thought Gawn kept the Ds in the game with his hitouts to advantage. Was Parish more deserving of votes than Gawn? Maybe the coaches thought the Belly+Clarke combo did a reasonable job against Gawn? I thought they got hammered, except late in the game when it was dusted and Clarke got a few hitouts.
Yeah i thought Gawn was huge. I think we won the clearance count but not many were clean clearances whereas when Max won a decent tap they were away
Given the clearances were dead even, I’d say Gawn’s influence was overstated.
I’m not sure that passes the sniff test either… We outscored them from clearance I believe, don;t have the numbers on me though.
Yeah Carey was getting way too agitated toward the end, only acknowledging 50/50 calls that went our way . Think “the king” might have had a little coin riding on that one.
With him dominating the hit-outs, it might also be our first look at the quality of our new midfield set-up.
Watching at the ground, we did seem to have a better secondary layer around stoppages and were able to pressure their stoppage clearances reasonably well. Certainly a huge structural improvement over the Giants who walked out the front of stoppages en masse.
