I was thinking this too, was clearly overly invested in a melbourne win not to have had a wager on the result. Even getting unusually upset at frost on a few occasions i thought was a bit strange.
I think the blue print for us each week should be to at least draw (win if possible) contested ball and then allow our spread and speed run all over teams.
Granted that most teams won’t allow us to us the corridor but this doesn’t mean all our strengths are nullified
I’m so bored with this obsession with umpires. Yes they make mistakes, as do players. When an umpire makes a bad call it’s replayed half a dozen times like it’s a REALLY BIG DEAL, but when a player makes a mistake it goes like this … “Heppell picks up the ball and swings on to his left but kicks it straight down the throat of Viney.”
Why is the mistake coming from the guy on $150K a bigger deal than the mistake from the guy on $750K? They have the same impact on the game. Umpiring isn’t a spectator sport, they’re peripheral to the action. It baffles me that the media care that much about whether the ump was right or not.
Also, they keep showing fans lose their ■■■■ over umpiring decisions. They even had a ‘picture in picture’ from Friday night so you could see the Melbourne fan going bananas while we kicked a goal.
If they’re gonna show the crowd, show the positive side of it.
Regarding umpires, look they are human and everyone makes mistakes. They normally do a good job, and it is not easy given the allowance for interpretation in the game.
What ■■■■■■ me off, and I think this is an AFL directive (so not the umpires fault) is the constant changing of interpretation of the rules week to week. This is what frustrates fans.
All matches should be umpired like they are finals.
