It’s easy to forget that Francis has only played 29 games. He’s better than many 29 game key defenders because he’s a bit older and stronger, but with only 29 AFL games he’s going to be inconsistent.
■■■■, the commentators love to overrate Heeney. He was clearly outmarked by Francis and Ridley on a number of occasions and, instead of praising the Essendon players, they’re like:
“Heeney, out of position there”.
McLaughlin: “Heeney is the best weight-for-age mark in the competition”.
Royal Commission into the ump who paid the free against Stringer for holding, then not pay a free to Tippa for over the shoulder BUT pay a mark to the Sydney bloke when it was touched by Tippa.
Around the ground it seems we still end up (or are forced to) kicking to a pack rather than working hard to create the loose man to offer as the target. While the kicking to the pack looks better as they tried to put it to a particular spot the execution with both the kick and the players getting to the ball/pack was poor at times. Kicking to the forward line at a zone was good at times, though in general entries I thought we went to Walla too often as an overhead forward marking target.
You can see what they have been working on but still a work in progress that’ll take a while to bring it together.
We won - on the road and flying up there the same day. So that’s a decent effort.
We haven’t been smashing our wins but at least we are winning and we are no where near our best… so lots of learnings and improving to make us better.
