Still can't believe that dreadful decision that gifted a goal to Goodes the untouchable in the last when we had kept up some pretty good pressure & resistance. Even Bomba mentioned it in his review.
5.3 to 1.1 to quarter time. 6.10 to 7.8 for last three quarters.
Sky's not falling just yet.
Agree and as a middle of the road side it probably never really will.
We will never bottom out with the way we operate. But at the same time the years are clocking up now since we were last a real premiership threat.
Sydney have been contesting finals for 10 years now and have nabbed 2 flags.
Sky hasn't been falling for over a decade now.
You somehow agreed with me then proceeded to make the opposite point I was making.
I guess some people will find any means to rationalise their pessimism.
In the same way that others find any means to rationalise their optimism?
Sure.
It's all a matter of perception I guess.
However I am very optimistic on our medium to longer term prospects. Just not so much on the short term.
The point I was subtly taking the ■■■■ out of is that for over 10 years it's always been the same thing after a loss whether it be a smashing or the umpteenth 'honourable loss' against a top side:
'The sky is not falling'
Not sure it means anything really.
I think it's just a catchphrase the 'half full' crowd use to make themselves feel better about the fact the team has been middle of the road for so long.
Not suggesting there's anything wrong with that.
But all you're really saying is 'it could be worse' which is ironic given the 'half empty' crowd are basically intimating 'it could be better'.
Perception.
I can’t help but notice every Stanton mistake is near costly … Or is costly. He waves his hands on the air wanting a holding the ball while an opponent strolls right past him for a shot on goal. Plenty of other things but you’ll think I’m bashing.
Hurley was alright but I think he’s not a defensive Backman that I’d like him to be. He’s more an offensive Backman.
Never liked goodes , never saw a man watch his own replays , strolls around like he’s awesome. He’s good yes but his demeanor reeks. Gets the Roo calls (Roo calls where going near him was an automatic free). So many calls going their way. So soft.
Sick of the Sydney game style , thankfully only see it once a year. Melbourne / Sydney and Freo’s game style all smell like the same boring ■■■■. I kinda want them to have an offside or zones to stop their crap. So so ugly football, not a team I’d like to watch play.

Hurley is about 50% of what he can be as a back man. Really starting to find his feet and get back his understanding of the defenders game. Added to that he just does not give up in contests. He wants it and I haven't seen that for a while since he first came in.

Bar his 6 goal game vs Fremantle in Perth, yesterday was his best game for the club.
And will hopefully mark the turning point in his career.
NB - Special thanks to Buddy's Knee tendons for allowing this to happen.
My only criticism of bomber as a coach is when he comes out and says "We didn't play our game" or "I just told them to play our game".
Sometimes the opposition doesn't allow us to play "our game" and this was evident int he 1st qtr and a bit. The Swans bottled up the game and sent players to the contest.
Instead of being pigheaded and just saying " We need to play our game" sometimes you need to play "their game" until the game opens up and then we take them on.
Sometimes we need to go to plan B or C. We should have locked down the game and and entered an arm wrestle and absorbed the pressure.

Can think of a couple of passes Stanton got that put him under pressure too. Sure, he had a below par game as a few did.

This is spot on IMO. Hey, last time I looked at any AFL match, there was another team out on the park and they wanted to win too.
We are often playing teams at way different stages in the evolution of their playing group. Where are we? 1-2 years off peak. Thats our window. .Over the next 2 years, we will play our game, and others will need to try to match it. Otherwise its "hit the reset button" because
up to 8 of our current best 22 will be retired by 2017, and that will mark 17 years in the wilderness and likelihood of 5-7 more years re-building .

Cannot actually get a grip on what you are saying here but what I get is that you didn't like Stantons' game. Well, isn't it the case that he is mercilessly tagged almost every time he plays? Isn't it the case that he still does quite well on average? Anyway, you've sucked me in because yes, I thought you were bashing. I thought Hurley played a great game as well.
