Review thread vs GEEEEELONG 2024

My gut feel is the move will be made at the end of next year if we again miss finals.
This club is the ultimate PR firm and they won’t like the media backlash so they’ll look for a scalp (Scott).

We’ve had 6 coaches in the last 10 years it’s quite obvious that the list is the issue not the senior coach.

We need to back Brad in and keep turning over the list and finding players who will its the only way

We’ve lost our last 3 games because we are our own worst enemy. The Gold Coast and Carlton games we literally lost due to pathetic goal-kicking, and last night, how we weren’t 4 goals up at half-time, is a farking disgrace.

Football is a game of momentum. We had that in the first half, yet found ourselves only 5 points up. When Geelong had the momentum, they capitalised.

The last 3 losses have been ■■■■■■■ unacceptable. We are fortunate that we’ve still got multiple chances to redeem ourselves this season (due to teams around us losing), but I have zero faith we will.

It’s almost like you’re describing half of us in the game day thread.

Great question.

It occurs to me that every time we get beaten, a certain cohort want to Trott out how sheet a Team we are. If we get a 3rd quarter pasting by the umps like that … it’s swings and roundabouts and “I’m not interested in that … coz other teams have to deal with it too”.

Oh and we are out performing on the ladder where we really are.

Poppycock ….
Where we are on the ladder is where we are.
Every other Teams have swings and roundabouts, ump decisions and injuries and the like. I can recall at the beginning of the Season many saying we would be 2-7 because we are so Sheet.

Well every Team has had to deal with the myriad of things thrown at them and after 16 rounds we are 4th. All the swings and roundabouts even out, so that means we earnt 4th spot.

That means we did what we needed to do, when we needed to do it, to get where we are, when others haven’t.
So that is what they have done.

In recent weeks although we have lost 3 games, in each of those games we showed significant ability and just failed to capitalise when it mattered.

I just hope our players keep their eye on the prize and keep coming.
Things will click.

Half? Most of us.

This ‘cohort’ comes out beacuse whenever this football club has an ounce of expectation in taking a major scalp and seriously making a name for ourseleves we fold like a deck of cards.

It happens every year.
It’s predictable as it is just sad and pathetic.

Make no mistake we were slaughtered by a bunch of kids and plodders, the same team that got thrashed by 10 goals themselves a week prior. People acceptaing the fact we dropped tools because a few decisions went against us, for fcks sake we were still only 20 points down at the last change. This is scary if we make finals, we’ll get done easily again. Can’t wait for Scott to rush Kelly back in next week.

Menzie is just a bog average player who’d struggle to get a game for North, in fact I don’t think he would. Why on earth are we developing hm as a defender? In what logical sane world is this going to work?

Heppell is finished, but we’re scared to tell him to stop because we’re thankful for what he did in the past, Biden style.

I remember when Redman used to be a good half-back, now he’s barely an acceptable one. If he’s injured than REST HIM.

Hind had a great 3 weeks, now it’s back to the norm and hopefully back to the sub role.

Stringer saves his best for the bottom 6 teams, and his usual nothing for the big games apart from a goal or two every so often.

Langford has been utterly woeful for a month now, he’s done a Weidemen. Can barely get a kick.

Perkins is going backwards, actually looks worse the more games he plays.

Gresham was better at the Saints.

Goldstein, Draper, Bryan…trade them all for one decent, reliable, hardworking, 100% effort ruckman. Throw in Shiel to the Saints for Marshall.

McGrath has slipped backwards, his form has dipped again, but he’ll be there at the end of year saying how disapointing the second half of the year…be a leader and stand up!

2MP needs to be dropped immediatley for Caddy, as the club will go nowhere with 2MP struggling to clasp at basic marks and mope around. Enough already.

I understand that loyalty is a core component to supporting a team, but you also need to call a spade a spade when you see it. We’re a mid-table side at best that’s overachieved thanks to a soft draw and now we’re being found out. It’s pretty simple really.

We lack top-end talent and it’s showing. When you though poor effort and a drop in intensity into the mix, you get the kinds of results we saw last night.

It was clear to see that when the chips were down as the game wore on, the boys dropped their heads and let the Cats have their way with us without resistance. AGAIN.

I wonder how we’d gone if we picked Hobbs and Setterfield, two wet weather players, instead of a ruck and Cox.

I am glad to see many of us are trying to avoid hysterical responses to a painful loss (thanks to @Finding_Nino ; @bltn and many others for the measured comments). I am trying my best to do the same, and I agree we need to maintain stability with the club and coach.

However I am frustrated with the fact Scott refuses to change his path, even when things aren’t working. Eg playing too many tall players every week,(Draper, Goldstein, Wright, McKay, Cox) (and Reid if he ever got fit); playing Kelly out of position; playing older players like Goldstein every week instead of developing younger players like Bryan or Hobbs. I also think it’s time Martin returned to the wing.

Scott has a critical month ahead of him re team selection now that Setterfield, Shiel, Hobbs, Caddy and Bryan are pushing for selection; and Davey Jnr seems to bring balance to the forward line, even if he doesn’t do enough individually.

I don’t know what the right decision is for the team, but I hope he tries something. We have a critical fortnight coming up.

One should not underestimate how good Jones was in the first half. After half time our fragile system broke down and Geelongs structure stopped us from wresting back control. Game over man

Neither in they are both ■■■■

Im one of the most pessimistic posters on here but we’ll beat Collingwood.

We didn’t take our opportunities when we had it due to wet weather. Started to clear up in the 3rd and a few decisions didn’t go our way, Cats like a good team put it on us like we should of in the Q2.

We won alot of important stats, I think we’ll end up clearing up alot of things over the next few days and have a good performance on Friday night. I just feel like we are due for it now, with the list being healthy and players should be fairly ■■■■■■ off and revved up about showing their worth. Im still in the belief we are probably the 8th-10th best team in the competition but we’ll get away with a good won here and there.

The last month has not been that great, but we should have beaten Suns (who have beaten everyone at home), we all know what happened against Carlton. We have a coach who has preached patience, and has given every indication he knows we have a long way to go. And we are in the 8…in fact still in the 4. And people here are talking about when Scott gets sacked, because he played 2 ruckmen. Yes I think there are young players we should see, but jeez…

I can’t envisage any scenario that sees us coming away with a win, but I’ll gladly eat humble pie.

That is quite simply the most accurate post I have seen about our predicament. Will Scott address any of these issues? No I think he lacks the coaching intellectual and knowledge ability to do so. At least at North he was passionate and angry. The fact is we have fallen off a cliff in so many areas and he can’t get us back to the way we were playing just like last year.
