Look, it hasn’t been a good month. But its what, round 15-16 now or something, we are 9-5-1 and 4th spot with a small injury list. Take it a game at a time, at the start of the year we would of all taken this sort of opportunity to be in contention. Now past performance is always a good indicator of future performance and our past haunts us badly. We’ll just have to take it a game at a time and allow posters like @dingus, @Duplicity @Wanderlust to keep a close eye on other games to make sure Essendon gets the results they need instead of actually winning games and cementing themselves as true contenders.
I don’t mind the two rucks, but Wright needs a spell
Need to bring in a couple of smaller types such as Davey and Hobbs to replace him. Lock the ball in better
It’s about taking the opportunity, when it’s there.
We set ourselves up with a good start to the season. The hope is that when you get a good run of form, the confidence grows…… then you do something special.
That’s how teams turn a corner.
We look like we have flopped, just like every other time we’ve started a season well.
When is this team going to actually turn it around and solidify ourselves as a genuine top 4 side? They’ve had/have the opportunity, and it’s quickly falling away.
I would like to see J Davey, might not be ready but he cannot be any worse.
Hobbs a given. Should have been in for Goldy last night.
Pies gonna ream us anyway.
Pies by 5 goals.
Dees by 4 goals.
Crows by 5 goals.
I can see us beating Saints maybe, maybe GC because it is Marvel. 11 wins for the year. Wheels are falling off. I hope i am wrong
This is probably fairly realistic and from our past history will more then likely happen, you’ve just got to hope they can galvanise and get it together
No top 4 this year we blew our chacne the goal now is to play finals and win one get the monkey of the back and see where it will take us
So In Kelly
Out Menzie
All is fixed
Problem? Of course we want the best results for our ladder position… weird take
There’s still water to go under the bridge and as I said earlier we were very competitive and probably played better for around 2.5 quarters but Geelong were always going to come. Ill maintain that we got absolutely shafted though and the AWFL will just come out and tick the decisions off like the bush league administrators they are
Farking hate when they do that just admit they got some decsions wrong last night thats all fans want.
Was out last night so have just finished the replay. Yeah…bit to take in.
Umpires killed the game in Q3 and we just gave up in Q4 which was really poor.
I’m really concerned with our forward method. Scott needs to pull his head out of the sand and realise that i50s don’t equate to wins. If he’s going to continue with the territory game he needs to select a forward line with either an aerial presence, or a ground ball pressure game. At the moment it’s neither. Geelong last night and Carlton weeks prior clogged the defensive 50 and counter attacked to 5 goal wins. I think Scott has had a really poor 6 or so weeks tbh and is beginning to feel all too reminiscent of last year. Hope I’m wrong.
You’ll recall that when Scott took over, this was the essence of our forward half strategy. Kick the ball long to our tall forwards who would bring it to ground.
He is just a very poor (and way behind the times) tactical coach.
Independent of our spot on the ladder, why on earth would you expect that the luck of 18 teams would even out over the course of 15 games? Everyone gets good luck and bad luck every year from injuries, and umpiring, and the draw, and all sorts of stuff. There’s absolutely no reason to assume it evens out.
Ridiculous. I’m as p*ssed as anyone about how we are going. But We’re gonna finish this round in the top 4.
Then we have a run of games at Docklands, after Melbourne.
We can still give ourselves an opportunity to be top 4 or get a home final.
Pretty simple really, the law of large numbers, the further through the season you go the passage of time will tend to even out the impact of “purple patches” and “runs of luck”.
It strikes me as odd that some will say what happened last night was just swings and roundabouts, whereas our position on the ladder is luck.
You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
Im with ya would love that.
Last night we had a chance to make a statement and we blew it thats what im disapointed about the most.
Media and footy experts will now question our bonafides all week hoping its the wake up call they need
Good point about the sliding, hope McKay doesn’t get three weeks for head high contact on Danger like the Weed copped.
I kind of agree with you. The amount of times we would have a series of hand balls under pressure and the last one would be towards Wright and we would cough it up was annoying. Can’t help but think in those situations Caddy would be more value. Also with our midfield going ok I’d like to see Merritt have a shot as small forward. We need some class down there.
Top 4 is gonna be a MASSIVE stretch now, we’re pretty decent odds to fold completely and miss too tbh
Hope we can turn it around but even 4th is fools gold because then you have to head up to the cringe coliseum that is the SCG
edit: the league has been very even this year though so we can expect a fair few upsets from other teams and we’ve won all our games this year when favored except the farce that was last night
Reviewing last nights game and it was a carbon copy to 90% of our MCG games the last 20 years, genuine ground hog day.
Inability to generate score, inability to stop momentum, inability to defend, defenders butchering the ball out of the backline, no presence at all up forward.
Its the same fkn story.
I could have mistaken last night for 2017 or 18 v Carlton, any dreamtime game v Richmond, any game especially away v Collingwood etc.
