Review v gws @ metricon round 19

Let’s be honest, fwd of centre it’s been String, Parish, Zerrett and, to a lesser extent, 2MP that we have relied upon for months.

Durham, who wasn’t on a list last month, was in our best. That’s how sh# our list is. There’s still a lot of farking work to do here folks… enjoy the ride because it’s going to be a long one. Dodoro needs every farkin draft pick from 2019 to 2023 to be a gun to undo the current state he has put this squad in.

Ham would be a very good touch football player. As soon as the game becomes about winning contested ball he’s a liability. Not fast enough to be that small & not skilful enough to hurt sides with his limited possessions. We have far too many players like him with glaring weaknesses that are regularly exploited. No more midgets unless they are hard as fark, quick as catshit &/or kick goals out their backsides regularly. With Stringer on ball & Jones injured we play most of the game with only 2-3 forwards any chance of taking a contested mark. Its unsustainable. Only Tippa has the ground game to make up for his weakness in the air.

Yes he did, but his consistency has been amazing.
Has been our best mid since 2017.

Even Ridds had some quietish games in the middle part of the year.

Had a few hours to digest things and read through the thread

  1. Our young players stood up when they heat came. The majority of our senior players didn’t.

  2. The team selections for this week were worsfoldesque. In what world is Zaka coming into the team and guelfi is going out. One guy gives you everything he has, the other has shown he isn’t up to it and hasn’t been for a long time

  3. Feel bad for the bomber fans on the GC. Have gotten to see us play up there a ton over the last 2 seasons and we have stunk it up

  4. This needs to be Hookers last season. I would hope he realises that himself.

  5. Durham looks good. Gets to a lot of contests and cracks in really hard

  6. Calm down Nino, I love ya mate. But you need to just chill a bit

  7. I’m glad we won’t be making finals. We don’t deserve it and would just be making up the numbers.

  8. Time for the club to make a stand to the AFL and come back to play in Melbourne

Might have even won that one at home. So many players seemed not to know where to be. Perkins looks great with the ball, without the ball he doesn’t seem to know where to be. Tippa was bizarre tonight, he’s such a head player, who’s really switched off at times. They looked highly organised at the back, we looked like a mess across the middle and forward. Not good enough, not ready for finals

Was Hooker really that bad? He had 12 touches and 4 marks inside 50, if he kicks 3 goals instead of 1.2 it’s a good performance and to be honest with the absolute flogging the midfield got tonight how much more can you expect from him? Yes he hasn’t been in great form the last month but our game plan has changed from fast and urgent to a slower build up and that has disadvantaged him

I offered my opinion to change the team. Where is your solution mate?

Till the changes thread gets created, I’ll post this in here
Out: Smith, Zaka, Walla
In: Guelfi, Langford, Clarke

Only reason Hooker stays in is because he takes pressure off the other forwards. Ham stays because there is no one else.

It’s not that simple though Nino. Teams have put a lot of work into bringing our ball movement unstuck (and that is by playing the boring keepings off ■■■■).

Clarkson showed the way in the second half of round 1. He played a similar game to Collingwood when they destroyed Richmond in the 2018 prelim, and early 2019. Freo tried doing the same thing, but we were able to shut them down.

We’ve shown that we are capable of responding, and forcing teams that try to play keepings off into turning it over. Unfortunately, we are neither fit, nor good enough to do it for a full season. We are definitely on the right track, and we are building a system that can stand up in finals, but we need a few more pre-seasons, and another year of good drafting first

Agree. By memory he also came off with a corkie or injury of some kind when he kicked his goal.

That is not a solution to fix the team.
I understand you have the right to have an opinion.

That’s not a good one though.
This is not Hooker circa 2014-18.
He can’t do that anymore.

I don’t agree, we should have won tonight plain & simple.

I don’t want to scrape into finals & get destroyed again.

I hope we get a better draft pick.

Why should we have won ?
What clear advantage do we have over GWS to make that call ?

I’m glad we won’t be making finals. We don’t deserve it and would just be making up the numbers.

Because the team attitude sux!
Trade AMT
Delist Cutler, more to come…
Retire Hooker & Zaharakis
Departing probably Guelfi + Clarke
Idk if Hurley will ever play again

I was there & to be honest we looked good up until 10 minutes into the 2nd QTR.
We were up at halftime.
We played the ground the week prior+we had significant crowd numbers.
True Umps were giving iffy decisions- we should know this by now the crowd does so suck it up princesses.
Ham, Cox, Perkins, TMP & Draper were playing well.
Needed to assess the next phase at halftime & clearly subbing out Cutler for Guefli wasnt 1 of them.
So I blame the coach & some of our ■■■■ players.

It’s meant to be a Medical SUB though.

We were so comprehensively beaten in the 2nd half, I’m not sure how you can say “we should have won”.

What you mean is…“I really wanted to win” !

When our players left a paddock open in the GWS forward half for them to take pot shots at goal or hit a target running back with the flight, its the attitude of our players that really stunk it up.
Or do you expect from our players 1 goal in a half of football?

Yeah well Tigers & other teams would have laughed it up.

Very interesting how you took my remarks out of context, and omitted the main Content.
The crux of the matter was to play two rucks with one resting in the forward line with the adjunct of a Wright playing as full forward.
Please read suggestions thoroughly before offering inane solutions!
