Let’s face it - it’s an ordinary list that played above itself in the first ten rounds.
With the exception of Merrett, there is not one consistently good player in the team. 2MP is stop gap at best as a FF (whenever he returns). Goldy filled a gap but now the season is shot he should never play again. Stringer can only kick goals 50m out on the boundary (ie. when there is no pressure).
At least injuries are improved and Durham and Caldwell have shown good signs. But it’s hard not to draw the conclusion it’s the same old mediocre Essendon.
Was working last night so listening on radio, MMM was best reception. Dunstall and Nathan Brown were really big on this point, when our work rate and pressure is up we beat anyone, but too often thing get tough and it gos away.
im as ■■■■■■ off as any essendon supporter, however we had the game won, and wasted 4 golden chances to goal and seal it, then somehow managed to ■■■■ everything up in the last few minutes… again. its so fucken depressing following this club, first we cant beat teams in the 8, now we cant beat teams outside it. Why the ■■■■ do they try to save a game we are 3 goals up in with a few minutes left, why is this football club like no other in the league? They just find new ways to depress us every week, i hate that im so invested and wish i could just turn it off.
While I don’t wish injuries on any player, this would be more tolerable if we had some.
At least then some kids would be getting a game and we’d get a chance to see something different. Relying on the exact same 24-25 jobbers every week is farking depressing.
Really? I think anyone who understands football & can look at it with a level of integrity would rate our list below Sydney, Carlton, Collingwood, Geelong, Brisbane, Giants, Melbourne, Port & Dogs. All those lists have proven strengths that have stood up in key games including finals. Fitness & form of lists can fluctuate in a season but it would take a lot of imagination to rate us a top 8 list based on talent & depth across the list. We have major structural weaknesses.
