Review vs Crows

What was the feeling like leaving Marvel were fans angry?

I keep hearing “at least we aren’t losing by 100 points like last year!”.

Reality is that only happened in the final two rounds. At which point we were still a big finals chance.

At a similar time last year we smashed a better crows outfit at the same venue.

For me there is no clear evidence we have improved on last year.

We won’t fall of a cliff, but a sinkhole is growing large in the middle of the Hanger right now.

Honestly people seemed more tired about it all than angry.

One lady I was speaking to just said “I love Essendon but ■■■■ it’s a lot”.

Kind of got the impression that people were resigned about it all.

Yeh mate keep telling yourself that…another 2 years. Another 18 months of this and the coach won’t be there. Then another 3 year plan. Open your eyes - we’ve been developing for 20 years. What we needed was a grenade to the joint. All the people in the saga gone, Dodo gone, Sheedy gone, no more talk of Hird, more Non Essendon football minded people in the club, before we can move forward. Right now, if is possible, I will put Sam Mitchell as head coach as bad as it sounds.

Moving to the G is not just about getting big crowds but to improve our record of winning there and adapting to play in wendy/wet conditions Marvel has made us get use to play in perfect conditions all the time

We can’t even get that right
Let’s learn to play well in the dry first hey

People were just looking at each other with that disappointing feeling we’ve been accustomed too. Shakes off the head like I can’t believe this crap is happening again!

This has really deflated the fan base. The worst part is our best footy is top 8 material, our worst is 18th. Why are we so up and down? There has to be a reason.

Cant blame them.

Which ever way the season pans out more big changes need to happen in the off season careers need to be put on notice they have 5 games to shape up or ship out

You mean a useless Goldy costing us 5 odd goals directly due to his slowness and inability compete did not impact the game.

You mean a slow Menzie who was in positions to kick goals with loose ball over the top… but just couldn’t due to his slow leg speed didn’t cost 3 goals at least? Hind or Davey kicks those goals.

Just gut wrenching sitting and watching it. They lost two key defenders but we only had Caddy, Langford and Stringer as the medium talls and couldn’t take advantage. Genuine key tall forward like Wright and we put the game to bed.

I was in dismay at the cluster ■■■■ of a club that I chose to support… I think it’s happened so often most supporters left the ground just apathetic.

Am I more disappointed than angry? ■■■■ no, I’m angry as all ■■■■

I was not a big fan of the omissions and thought 2MP and hind were a bit stiff. But the ins were insidious. I could live with Peter going out but at least give the position to Bryan, give him a go. And what was the point of holding back Hobbs last week?

Imagine if L Hodge became an EFC assistant coach. I’d be throwing dough at him to consider it

Sadly the team reminds me a lot of teams I endured going to see play during the 2010’s. Back then we had a lot of inconsistent, average players like Myers, Lonergen, Hocking, Dyson, Jetta, Davey etc, who could only play well 1 in every 3 or 4 games. One week they’d all get a few kicks and we’d be world beaters and then lose the following week when they’d all play badly. But they would stay on the list year after year. Now I see Guelfi, Menzie, Gresham, Draper, Stringer - terribly inconsistent players who we persist with, with pretty much the same result. To my eye we overrate very average list cloggers.

I’m a big critic of our coaches team selection and game strategy, but until we sort our list management out it won’t matter who is coaching us.

There were a couple of good leads from Stringer which seemed to be ignored

Leaning with King here, guys in their mid twenties should have the basics down pat.

Good to see the Saints off to a flyer against WC, they’ll smack us next week and the rot will truly set in.

Most of that list were there in 2011 & 12 when we again had patches of wins & were sitting in the top 5 but ultimately fell away. 2013 was always going to be the same. The saga galvanised the group for a few extra weeks but its just delusional to think that side had elite potential. We started well but once again capitulated to Geelong before losing to the bottom 4 Brisbane at Marvel. We only played the eventual top 4 once each so an easier draw & even before the Hawthorn game we’d lost convincingly to Geelong & Swans. Our midfield was slow carried by Jobe & our best forward was Crameri FFS. Maybe maybe maybe a finals win somewhere in there may have been possible but nothing before the saga supported a full season effort & nothing since has shown we are capable of really challenging over 28 weeks.

Kings right, McKay got beaten a lot of the time the ball went near him and Thilthorpe.

Thilthorpes a gun and only going to get better.

We need Benny McKay to elevate to Steve May levels at times. And he does look good a lot of the time, last night was a mare
