The bloke who’s job I wanted all through med school, ever since he’s left the hotseat I’ve only wanted to see him back. Absolute champion of the club and even gave the ■■■■ of a disease that meso is, a good fight on the way out. Rest in peace Reidy. Gone but never forgotten.

My wife doesn’t particilarly like football but she did like one thing about it though “that nice little white haired man”.

RIP Doc Reid.

A keystone of the club. A support in the good times, a prophet in bad, and courageous in the worst.

What’s with the “cleared” ? The charge was withdrawn

Sad news for his and the bomber family.

R.I.P Doc.

Incredibly saddened by this news. RIP to a much loved Essendon stalwart and a fantastic character of the mighty Bomber’s.

Never met him but he was so familiar that it seemed like I knew him personally. I hope his estate will still receive the settlement.

RIP Doc Reid.

Very sad day for the EFC club and his family. Much loved by all.

This little grey haired bloke was an absolute legend of the club.

A reminder how brutally unfair life can be. A guy who spent his life looking after others, ensuring they were healthy and disease free. Only to succumb to one himself. Fk that.

I shall raise a glass and tell the AFL to “get fked” tonight.

So sad to hear. Rest In Peace Bruce <3

such a lovely bloke. At the James Hird Testimonial, he and Mark Bolton read out a hilarious poem about Sir James. Bumped into them at the after party, and complimented them on the poem, and Doc got the piece of paper out and gave it to me as a memento.

He also told a fantastic story about the night before the 2000 grand final. Hirdy rang him, “Doc, I can’t sleep”. So Doc made the trek over to Toorak, spoke into the security at the front gate, gate opened, and he made the ‘ten minute drive down the driveway to the mansion’. Arrived at the house, rang the door bell, and ‘it took Hirdy ten minutes to walk from his bedroom down to the front door’. Story went on for a while, but the end result was that Hirdy slept like a baby and Doc got no sleep at all

RIP.

Legend.

RIP Doc

“One man’s life touches so many others, when he’s not there it leaves an awfully big hole”.

The quote comes from the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” but it couldn’t be more apt in describing the life of Doc Reid and how we all feel today.

The beautiful tributes from so many this morning clearly demonstrate the love and affection we all have for him and the breadth of his reach - whether it was as a doctor in family practice, through his life in football or as a loving family man.

I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but being the man he was and because of this reach that he had, I felt like I knew him. And as was the case with everybody else, I liked what I knew!

RIP Doc - a true legend.

Gutted. It won’t be the same without him. He was everything to the Essendon Footy Club.
