Blitz has sadly lost another long-time contributor with the passing of Vicki aka Scorpio. Her son has shared some lovely details about her.
A silver member for many years, Vicki was a passionate Bombers supporter through and through and loved being on this forum having discussions with countless users on any topic from match day threads to US politics to the Saga.
Vicki actually grew up supporting Melbourne! But was converted to the mighty red and black through meeting her partner Clive and an intervarsity basketball friend Glenda, both passionate Essendon fans. (Glenda’s dad Stan Snowy Wilson played for the club in the 30’s and 40’s which also helped the conversion!)
She went to the 84 Grand Final with Clive and Glenda instead of a friend’s wedding! The friend had deliberately got married on Grand Final day because he was a Footscray supporter . They got to the reception at about 9 pm that night, a bit under the weather…. the groom understood, the bride however was not overly impressed!
Vicki was also in attendance at the 2000 Grand Final, and her son says it was probably the highlight of her time supporting Essendon
Her favourite players over the years were Terry and Neale Daniher, J Hird, Wanganeen and Mercuri, then Jobe later into the 2000s.
Vicki was very vocal on here through the 2013 Saga period, including sticking up for the players, talking to other Blitzers on the phone as well as in chats trying to make a difference. She even went as far as talking to a couple of members on here about running for the board, to try and help change the club’s direction at the time.
There was also about a 10-year period where Vicki accompanied her two sons to ANZAC day games religiously, until the Saga railroaded the club and it stopped being enjoyable anymore as they were living on the Gold Coast.
Vicki passed peacefully earlier this week in the Gold Coast Uni Hospital after a brief battle with cancer.
Really sad news. My condolences to Vicki’s family.
Such a great Blitz contributor. Sass and passion, serious and light hearted. I always read her posts knowing I would either nod in furious agreement or have a laugh.
Working on the saga, Vicky was such a staunch supporter of those impacted - she fought as best as she could and I really rate her dedication to this.
I found out yesterday and am struck by how much I feel the loss of someone I’ve not met. Vicki had an impact in this forum, imagine in the real world.
R.I.P Vicki and thank you for all you gave to Blitz and the club.
It’s a real circle of life on Blitz now. Many of us have been here so long we’re now saying goodbye to posters we’ve never met but still known for decades.
I had many great chats with Vicki over the last 20 years on both Blitz and on Twitter.
I had been wondering if all was ok, because I hadn’t seen much from her on Blitz and Twitter the last few months….. because her contribution was always valued in any discussion, whether that be Essendon or politics.
I remember one very funny tweet she made, after the Melbourne cup.
About how these kids are dressed to the nine in mini dresses, heals, a bottle of Champaign in hand & smoking cigarets……. And she said something like, yeah I’ve been doing that since the 70’s.
