Rohan Connolly thoughts on Essendon

My problem is I don’t know how to emotionally stand back. I made it such a big part of my life when I was a kid it’s intrinsic to who I am.

Thing is now I want to find a way.

Never thought I’d say that.

I know I’ve already replied to this, but another thought I’ve had on this is that we’ll be doing damn well not to lose a whole generation of supporters.

What motivation is there for kids to support Essendon in the last 19 years? Kids are fickle and want to support winners.

I’m certain there will be a flow on effect to this in the near future - whether it’s through falling attendance or lagging memberships, as older members become disillusioned and we struggle to attract younger fans.

so many are in the same boat.

ala said most of us picked the worst ■■■■■■■ time to try, when you literally can’t do much else in general, let alone anything new and different when you’re in vic atm.

On the other hand, didn’t Richmond have about 100K supporters last year? 3 good years after 36 disappointments?

Let a good ol fashion rant on Blitz tide you over in these troubled times…

The board and whoever else excell again.

Yeah they did. Good point. But they were struggling big time at points. Was there not a fighting tiger fund organised by fans at some stage in the 90s?

Brendon Gale has done a great job with the Tigers since he got involved.

Edit: no, I’m thinking of save our skins in the 80s…

We need our equivalent of this guy. Stat.

That is so ■■■■■■■ grim.

It’s not even like they had some was some legitimate reason to pick McKenna like Woosha wanting him they actually went AGAINST advice to pick him up…surely it was obvious to anyone he was a bad choice. Up there with Neeld, staggering

When Frawley got the job at Richmond, he was shocked at the culture - players reliving beating Essendon in a semi years back. Sitting around rewatching the vid of the game, patting themselves on the back, did not watch the next game when they got trounced. Board culture was the same, happy to win a game, make the odd final.
Contrast the serve that Sheedy gave the players at that infamous dinner after the 83 GF, Back to back after that.

I’m the same, it is intrinsic to me as well - I can’t believe this is the same club I grew up supporting. And stepping back hasn’t been something that I completely consciously did. I’m just trying not to dwell as much on it. I think I’ve finally reached the acceptance stage of a long process of grieving. But I’ve had to do that with a lot of things in my life lately, so it might be a personal thing, too. It still hurts, don’t get me wrong.

Edit: I think I’ve misread the post…carry on

Yep.
Go through a thorough process.
Then, having done that, back your candidate in.
If you trust them in the role, support them. If you don’t, it’s all a waste of time.

Seems to me Worsfold has always had lukewarm support, despite being headhunted. And I’m not convinced there’s been any change.

Haha yes you are:. Your Twitter is a mess of abusing Murdoch press People and getting angry at anything not left wing. Has an absolute vendetta against people with an opinion different to his!!

In saying that agree with the cultural stuff.
