Early betting has us big outsiders at $3…I think we are worth a little nibble at those odds!! You never know the Hawks could have a tough game and/or injuries against Sydney tonight…

Conditions tonight should be ok in Sydney.

I mean theres some big clouds around but I don’t think heavy rain is forecast. BOM says the chance of rain is decreasing as the day goes on.

…and let’s not forget that Mitchell is a flog

They’re playing Sydney at […checks…] the SCG. The ground will be wet even if all of the weather says it shouldn’t be.

They’re gettable but they could have won the flag last year imo, the signings of Barrass and Battle are very good inclusions.

Concur. We belted em last year and we’ll ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  belt em again this year.

Haven’t hidden my thoughts about them since their run last year.
I do believe that across the field they are stronger than us, even with injuries to 2 KP forwards.

That does not mean we can’t win next Friday.
Who knows what tonight’s game does for the Hawks ?
Probably helps them, though we won’t know till next week.

Thery could have won the flag… but missed it by that much, which in the end was quite a bit.

I’m with you. I look at their list and the difference is coaching.

They are not full of superstars, they are full of players that understand the gameplan and the role they play in that gameplan.

The team is all over the shop

Sicily is named on a wing and Frost on bench

It would have been Sicily playing kpf with Chol fwd/ruck, and Barrass, Frost + Battle in defence

Conor Nash is named in fwd line also likely playing mid/fwd who is 198cm.

We will be fine playing our trio in rd1

They don’t lack for much since repairing the Key defensive posts.
A strong bodied midfield which is suited to Finals with a competitive Ruck.
Speed and skill across all the lines.
Plethora of small forwards.

The only question mark is KP forwards as Lewis can’t get on the park, and Dear is still a teenager.

What are your defensive matchups?

If its Sicily, Chol and a taller mid in rotation like Day or Nash then I’d likely go

McKay to Sicily
Reid to Chol
Ridley to Day/Nash

Mitchell has already said Hardwick is playing forward this year so I wouldn’t take any notice of him being named at full back

If Frost is still in the team next week, he’s playing forward.
Sicily will almost certainly play forward.
Barrass, Battle, Scrimshaw & Weddle is plenty of height in defence.

McKay - Chol
Reid - Frost
Ridley - Sicily

If Frost is dropped then Gunston probably comes IN.

I’m still not at all convinced about their midfield.

It clicked in the second half of the year, but for periods last year it looked absolutely horrible.

Day playing a full season would help, but I think they are still lacking a bit there

They lack someone with serious burst out of CB.
They all move well but lack that JHF or Warner type player.

It’s still friggin good though…
Day, Newcombe, Worpel, Nash + the part timers and youngsters.

Yeah this is limited imo.

Day is good (but injured regularly), Newcombe had times last year where he almost forgot how to play at all.

Nash and Worpel are limited.

It isn’t a strong mid group imo. They rely heavily on hff like Ginnivan and Moore to push up in a similar way Geelong do with their high half forwards.
