We can’t just shutdown life. It would be an economic calamity for Australia. We push ahead in everything we do, taking maximum precautions.

I’d be interested to see how far the opposite side of the fence would go in everyday life.

It’s like oh 1 player gets sick, shut it down, sue the pants off of gil and the afl.

I’m curious if one person tested positive at say coles or safeway, should all of them be shut down ?
or is that different cos screw those lesser people we need supplies.

what about gas stations ?
dr’s offices ?
hospitals ?

oh yeah but heaven forbid an afl player catches it, the absolute braindead massacre that’ll cause will be so ■■■■■■■ unbearable.

Very different scenarios.
If a player contracts it, that whole playing group will be a significant risk, given the large amount of time they’re spending in close quarters and sharing balls, tackling, etc. Not to mention the entire team they played the week before. It has the potential to snowball very quickly. Just 2 years ago, they had to shut down the hangar and disinfect the whole place cos a large number of players picked up a bug in a short window. That’s not a strange scenario at football clubs.

GPs offices, hospitals are disinfecting their hands constantly and using disposable items. Workers at Coles and servos etc won’t have that same close contact either and hopefully they’re washing their hands. I’m sure they’ll spread it, but each person spreads it 2-3 people on average.

it’s not really that different.

essentially the people who are hiding behind the morality of the situation and the ethics of letting them play, will have no problem allowing 15 yr olds to put themselves at risk to keep a “essential” service operating because you and I and they need to buy stuff at a supermarket.

What if playing afl/nrl was re classed as being “essential” for the mental health of the nation ? would it somehow become an acceptable risk ?

people seem to want to get on their high horses (not aimed at anyone specific) about what constitutes “essential” and then are quiet willing to allow those people to put themselves at risk, no matter what the risk it’s still a risk, all because when it comes down to it WE need them for something.

If you want lockdown lock the whole ■■■■■■■ joint down, don’t pick and choose which people it’s ok for them to go risk themselves for the collective you.
