You have to wonder about Geelong. They’ve been so impressive this season. But they’ve been equally impressive in other seasons, but when it comes to the finals they just don’t get there. Will they get there this year? Who knows?

I know in the past it’s usually been the team thats hit form at the right time of the year thats gone onto win the flag but you’ve also usually had 1 or 2 teams that have been the standout best where you think “it’s their flag to lose”. This year has a completely different feel. There’s the top 6 teams that are set in stone already to make finals (Dees, cats, lions, dogs, Port, swans) but all of them have also exposed their vulnerabilities in patches this year.
Someone said earlier that Geelong look like the team to beat right now but how many times have we seen that over the years where during the H&A season they look a million bucks but just can’t get the job done in September. Port have only beaten up on the bottom teams and can’t win a game against a top 8 team to save themselves. Dogs have shown if you can match them in midfield and apply the pressure they’ll fall to pieces. Lions have been mostly good but are prone to brain fart games (I.e. saints game last week) plus they’ve lost hipwood for the year now which is going to be huge loss. Swans have shown they can play scintillating footy and are a huge smokey in my eyes to take it home this year. They are also capable of winning away from home which is what they will have to do, but as I said this won’t phase them. Then you have the dees. Been great this year and have shown that they can beat the teams all around them now but can they do it in September?
Literally anyones flag this year with no standout team to beat. Being the form team this year in September will never be more vital or important.

I have been constantly saying Freo are average, vagaries of the draw has them higher on the ladder than they deserve. They are one of the worst sides to watch, every time I see them they are trying to play a scrappy borefesr

I reckon Brisbane is gonna belt richmond tonight. They just look uninterested and they must know their run is over.
Would be great viewing for 1st night of lockdown.
