I would of loved to win that but thinking about it now
What a great loss.
Losses like that is where you learn and become better. Top sides don't give up leads like we did in the last few minutes and we will learn from this. The loss also keeps us in check as some might say we got a bit ahead of ourselves last few years winning so many games straight from the start.
This will hurt the boys and i think the loss will make us stronger then if we had won tonight.
Well I woke up at 4:00 AM in Texas to watch this match, and I wasn't disappointed. Gutted by the outcome, but we have a hell of a lot to be excited about this season. Hooker and Ambrose were sublime, and Chappy was, well, Chappy. Goddard in the 3rd was about as good a footy as you'll ever see. I'm wondering if he spent all his energy there, though.
Having to use Daniher in the ruck was a problem, so I'm anxious to get Belly back to compliment Ryder.
Overall, though, an inspired performance by a team that is still very, very young. We've got the senior leadership and the youthful talent to really be a good side this year. Very much looking forward to what the rest of this season has in store for us.
So proud of the guys. If we had a runner of HB we would have been much better off. We have bettered ourselves by 52 points since last time? All be it against there B team however the guys want to win and the loss will hurt bring on the Scum!
Damn, that hurts. Annoyed that we didn’t have someone goal side of the centre clearance after Chappy’s goal, and annoyed Myers kick went out of bounds (don’t blame him, just bad luck). But if we’d won Hawthorn would have had some what if’s as well, not least being Hodge going off. Very proud that the boys worked their way back into it. Hooker was brilliant all game, Ambrose was great, Chappy was brilliant, and a heap of others just worked their butts off. Ironically the change in structure forced by Ryder going off is going to ask some real questions as to what our best forward line is. After that it seemed Daniher, Carlisle and Ambrose all got more mobile. Big turning point was Gibson being shut down. And I think the focus on the F50 is correct, since I think our F50 cost us the first half, and hence the game. Apart from bad kicking for goal for a lot of it, the problem was that in the first half Hawthorn won WAAAYYY too many 50:50 balls cleanly in the back half. They then cleared very well. Gibson led this, but was hardly alone. Daniher into the ruck meant Gibson to a more agile player, and suddenly a lot of that was shut off. I think we’re a functioning F50 away from real success, so I hope they get it right sooner rather than later.
We didn't beat them during the season in '84 but gradually snuck up on them until we beat them in th GF. Let's do it again bombers!
That was their second tier midfield and backline.
True, but we're building and we played well with no ruckmen, no Dempsey, no Winder's, no Melksham and no Kommer, and with young ones coming on quick. Plenty of up side. We'll also learn plenty more from Bomber this season and be playing how he wants us to play more and more, especially with our forward structure.
Good effort lads. Reckon we reeked out a couple of lucky ones last year so, can’t win em all.
Not sure if we are recruiting better, developing better or the noobs just look better because of some more high end talent in the team. Anyway keep up the good work derdoro and co.
