There is HBF’r and then there is lock down small defender on slippery fwds. He most certainly isn’t the latter

That game

You must have blacked out with rage at some point, because he kicked 12.

And broke Lloyd’s record at Etihad at the same time.

How is our VFL team $hit as well? I could’ve sworn we would almost be the team to beat this year given our depth of experienced players coming back adding to a team that played a prelim.

Pretty average list and a lot of our supporters are blinded by loyalty and overrate them. We just haven’t got the cattle

Can we start turning on Dodoro again?

Surely, Long’s days are numbered. He’s not improving one bit.

That sounds encouraging, can you expand on this ?
Did his contested ball skills result in many clearances?
Did he demonstrate vision and good decision making, along with the “clean hands” that were described by Mark Corrigan.
Was he effectively blocking for our other inside mids ( Bird / O’Brien)

In his draft year Clarke was known to be a contested ball / stoppage specialist, but not surprisingly it is taking him time to get traction in that role when playing against the big boys. We desperately need this type of player in the AFL side, but he has a long way to go imo, unless out of his 28 disposals 15+ were from contested possessions and he won 5+ clearances. That would be real progress.

I haven’t seen any stats, so I’m just going on my impressions from the game. I recall he and Bird and NOB dong well in close at clearance (TBell pretty much dominated the hitouts). I didn’t see much sign of blocking and physical work, although I was surprised how tall he was when looking at him in the huddle. His hands were good, and he was quite good in terms of vision and disposal by hand. As I said his kicking was ok without being anything special. He looked quite good overhead a couple of times too. Nothing very “wow” about anything he did, but something to build on. He is nowhere near ready to player AFL yet IMO though.

Clarke named our BOG. While he had plenty of touches, these things are a bit random: e.g. Begley had 9 touches and scored 0.0, and got in the best six.

4 effective kicks, 7 ineffective
11 effective handballs, 4 ineffective

Mind you, he’s not alone on that kicking efficiency: Tommy 2/7, Nobby 5/13, Draper 0/4.

The game was comfortably the lowest number of disposals we’ve had this year (296). I’m not sure I believe some of them, but it has 11 of our players under 10 disposals.

(Nobby 34, Bird 26, Clarke 26, Ferry 23, Merrett 22, Mutch 18, Smack 15)

Yeah, but we all know that the “Bests” in the VFL, is 50% actual best players, and 50% young senior listed players encouragement awards / pat’s on the bumm right?

And oh yeah, apologies to Younan. You haven’t been any good, but it was your look-alike† Uysal who mostly stunk it up this week.

† RACIST

To be fair, I struggle to find 6 who had a good game: let’s say Ferry, Nobby, Bird, Mutch, Stewart, and Clarke.
