I have a question to ask and it probably shows why I was a useless footballer, but how would it hurt our structure or JC’s development if he spent the whole game (baring the quarter and half time breaks) in the forward 60? 60% of that time in the goal square if possible.
I hate seeing us finally get a fast break and there being no one home for us to kick to.
I know they leave winders there and he is excellent overhead for his size but I can’t help but feel with JC there,
(who we know is a fantastic mark when on and even winders in a pocket crumbing or marking himself as it scares me when he runs too much) he may clunk a few and take a few easy shots which one would hope would boost his confidence.
Has anyone seen Gleeson play up fwd in the VFL? Just wondering if he could come in for Winderlich or if he has to be played in defence for now. Seems fast and agile and willing to throw his body around, but I’ve got no idea if he’s a good crumber or set shot on goal.
IIRC he played a bit of footy on a HFF in the VFL last year; wasn't a massive goal kicker despite his skillset, more of a playmaker. All that said, I'm pretty sure that most of his time in the reserves was on a HBF or wing. Could be an option though.Has anyone seen Gleeson play up fwd in the VFL? Personally, I reckon both he and Hardy will come in for Winderlich and someone who's sore or unlucky (one of the Merrett's maybe, or Ashby).
Bring in hardy for winder. Gleason for merret if he doesn’t come up our ashby who has done his fair share of sub work and could probably use a full game.
The gleeson forward experiment didn’t last long due to him being mothballed for shoulder surgery. And when he did go forward, it was in a semi defensive mode. Played an accountable role on Matt farrelly one day and did it well.
I think long term I’d play him on a wing. His skill set and evasiveness will be very useful working into the back half when needed but also allows him to impact offensively as well. So far, Ashby looks more like the permanent half back and Marty up the ground. Very very early days though.
I have felt that they had already started to push him higher up the ground. Played more mid time on Anzac day and he has started to get a few more shots. Reckon bonnet realized we were short of ball carriers so moved him up a bit

I don't understand the calls to bring in Hardy, What I think of his game aside, He was poor for the prior 3 weeks and was dropped for a reason, so why after one week are we going to go back to the same status quo ?
Tis the same with Jetta.
We all know what we will get from playing them, which isn't alot. So why aren't we trying new/developing players instead, or different players in different roles ?
Why is it if Winder is missing the only players that can replace him are either Jetta or hardy ?
Granted by reports his form was good yesterday, and i'm not saying if that continues to bad he shouldn't be picked.
But surely we still have to search for alternative options to what we may think is the best line up and players in x position.

You're a mod?
Got the Gleeson love from day 1 but the Ashby love was more on the sly. Is he one who looks better at the top level Sal?

No, I'm more of a rocker. Mods ride soft ■■■■ scooters, not motorcycles, lol.
Ashby has really come on nicely. Improved a fair bit from last year to this. That said, in hindsight, his performance in his first Vfl season was probably reasonably solid, which is a good effort for a lightly built kid.
Let's be honest, they're a very ordinary side. Even at our best we are better than them. Even Melbourne has more upside to them on current form.
And if Brown and Hanley don't get up they are even less likely. They have a bunch of okay rebounders, a thug(Merrett) and a few kids who will be okay in 3-4 years time.
We should beat them, regardless if we turn up to play or not. Anything except for a win is not good enough. This is a game we win. There are no alternatives.
How's Myers tracking? Anyone, anyone?

Profits are down and loss prevention costs are through the roof.
I’d go:
Out: Winderlich (knee/rested), J.Merret (quad)/Z.Merrett (omitted).
In: Ambrose, Aylett
Out - Winderlich and Jerrett (Combination of the corky and his form tracking downward since the Carlton game)
In - Gleeson and either NOB or Aylett
Sub - Zerrett
Chapman/Jobe/BJ to play deeper forward in Winderlich's absence
Jackson merrett is the sort of player we should be trying to get as many games into as possible. If his corky is fine, LEAVE HIM IN

I think Doc Reid said last week 2 weeks.
I suspect - with only two games left - he won't play until after our round 10 bye

Yeh it would be silly to play Myers in this game, as will be good experience for the kids.
He might be a chance for the dreamtime game. And we may need him to help us win given the tigers resurgence against the cats.
I hope we wipe the floor with these peasants. please activate ESSENDON mode.
Is Kav a chance to come in?
I'll be heading up for my first interstate game, also perfectly coincides with my 30th b'day.
Any good pubs to head to before the game for a feed and about 20 pots?
