Minson getting off with a fine is a joke. If you're not going to suspend a bloke who abuses, threatens, and then shoves an umpire, then what the hell he have to do? Who'd be a lower-level umpire right now? Even if you go through the ranks, talking down psycho parents at the u14s, and end up in the second best comp in the country, you won't be protected if one of the AFLs spoiled millionaires has a go at you.

And pretty soon the AFL will be on telly sternly talking about umpire’s round, respect for the officials doing a thankless job, etc etc etc. They all sound so very virtuous an intolerant of wrongdoing, until it comes time to make a hard call. Pathetic…

i would have thought a 1 or 2 game suspension would have been fine.
sends a message not to touch umpires or you will miss a week.
4 weeks was excessive.
A fine seems a bit lenient.
Petrie said Harvey missed 2 weeks for a smiliar incident about 8-9 years ago when Harvey touched an umpire after a goal he thought was touched.
For petrie to remember that 2 week penalty must have made its impact.
$7500 is not really a deterrant. But it will hurt the doggies/minson a fair bit in comparison to other clubs.

4 weeks was excessive and wrong, but a fine is a massive overreaction and too lenient. Apparently they didn't see option 3...

If I were interested in games outside of the ones Essendon plays, I would say other than the first two listed (clear blow outs) this is an interesting round of footy.
