One Phillips back up and a cat B to replace McBride. A pity Richmond just signed a 210cm WA NBL player…
Yeah that’s what you’d be looking at. Then IMO I’d be content with our ruck situation. And that’s not counting 2MP being able to play pinch hit minutes in there. But I’d be happy if Draper and Bryan can co-exist in the one team.
He would dominate pre season training and be Dodoro’s crowning glory!
The old Galloping Gasometer.
Mark Jamar’s mate, the other Big Russian, Alex Ischenko.
If only he didn’t drop off the perch 15 years back.

How good would a match race be?
I’m not convinced about the two ruck setup:
- Neither Draper nor Bryan are very impactful forward.
- Play one of those ruckmen alongside 2MP and if the ball comes to ground, there’s inadequate pressure. It doesn’t work.
- Some people think 2MP can never leave the forward line, but he’s just played a ho-hum year forward…his hitout win rate generally ranks as one of the best relief rucks.
- Langford basically just kicked as many goals as 2MP in 2022.
To me, we only need one more ruck. And it can be a young developing ruck. If things really go wrong just play 2MP as our third-ranking ruck…and if we bring in a mature ruck like Goldstein, it just raises the risk that Bryan gets fed up and requests a trade.
Not really, it just requires open communication with Bryan about what the long-term plan is and where he fits within the team
‘Hey we want you to develop into our key #1, so we’re going to bring in one of the most experienced rucks in the league to help mentor and develop you for another year and make sure you’re setup for success’
But we don’t want to develop Bryan into our number 1, it’s always been Draper
It has been, doesn’t mean it will be
If we’re getting someone like Goldstein, I’d hope it’s so that he can eventually segue into a role as a ruck specialist coach when he retires. He’d be a good asset if he’s a good natural communicator.
Maybe we need to do the GWS model who had development coaches also on the rookie list playing VFL.
Given both Draper and Bryan are young I don’t understand why we’d need another developing ruck.
Because Draper is 25 this month with an extensive history of injuries?
A developing ruckman is a 4 year investment?
Rucks can play quite long, and we’re developing two capable of playing as #1. Better if something goes wrong to try and find another in the market versus using a list spot for someone who may leave for nothing due to lack of opportunity.
Cat B basketball player for me.
Nah. What we need is a tough bugger, a Roger Merrett type, who can play ruck, CHB, and all-round enforcer, whose footsteps no opposition player wants to hear behind him.
His name is Voss.
Is VOSS big enough to ruck ?
