Russia invades Ukraine - 2 - from 4 May 2022

HIMARS M30/M31 GMLRS rockets strike their targets at the speed of Mach 2.5, or nearly 3,062.6 kilometers per hour. Therefore, when they have to reach a target 80 kilometers away, they spend some 94 seconds in the air before they hit their target.

94 seconds to travel 80km and kill with precision!
The universe would be better off without humans.

Another Russian warcrime. Use of incendiary weapons over civilian areas.

Unknown who fired that. Odds are Russia, but nothing categorical that I’ve seen.

Ukraine official sources are being coy about the target struck - refer to grain being stored at the port, won’t divulge the quantities which may have been damaged. It is not clear whether the actual port was hit.
Official source states that shipments were supposed to commence 25 July, but at the same time is requesting merchant ships which want to form part of the caravan led by a Ukraine ship to email a Ministry.

Russian cruise missiles have a very random spread. Even if they aimed at a military target, much of the time they don’t hit anywhere near it.

To fire near the grain export infrastructure has a very high chance of hitting it.

No side displaying any pictures of the damage or giving precision to the location.

Does it take anything special to extinguish those?

They likely did target something of military value, but we are talking the port of Odessa which has been garrisoned. Everything along the waterline is a military target.

Because Russia is absolutely useless at hitting the things they aim at, there’s maybe a 10% chance they hit the grain infrastructure with that shot. Extremely reckless. This was purely a ā– ā– ā– ā–  you signal to the west. It has nothing to do with military value.

From Popular Mechanics:
Can thermite be extinguished?

Commonly a fifty-fifty mixture of rust and aluminum powder, thermite requires the high temperatures of a burning strip of magnesium to light, but once it gets started it’s almost impossible to extinguish . It can burn through pavement, melt through engine blocks, and even stay on fire underwater.

Is there any way to stop a thermite reaction after it is ignited?
Yes but it’s hard… for the average person without access to hyper cooled or compressed inert compounds most likely no. An if you started it it should be controlled… if you didn’t you may not realize what it is and do something dumb like try and drown it in water. It needs no oxygen… and water subjected to those temperatures will immediately break down into oxyhydrogen now you have an explosive gas mixture with an ignition rate that creates sonic booms throwing molten metal in all direction… I’ve seen it fly 50 feet before. You would need hard to get resources you would also want to know what mixture was used… bc other compounds can be added to potentiate the reaction in the event you try to put it out… perhaps magnesium chloride… you add water to that an not only is it explosive now but water will possibly increase the thermogenesis reaction while converting magnesium chloride into more fuel in the form of magnesium oxide… unlikely bc you need to make ratio calculations for the ideal burn… but most likely attempts to put out termite would make it worse… the usually tactic even among firefighters when dealing with this or even just magnesium is to stand back and make an effort to keep the surround cool an cut off fuel… they do not usually try to put out the source… containment is the goal

The harbour is in the north of the city.

It is hard to believe that it is Day 151 of this War. Here is Operator Starsky with a general round-up of the War so far at Day 150.

There’s a grain terminal just north and just south of this impact site.

Thanks.
Will bank that in the unfortunate scenario where I might need it. If hit, dig/cut it out…
